The Ku Klux Klan The KKK was an organization in the United States created in 1866. It was created by 6 Civil war veterans. The name Ku Klux Klan originated from the Greek word "kuklos", meaning circle. Hence, the translation "circle of brothers". KKK How does the KKK relate
to Animal Farm Introducing the KKK Who started this organization (According to the History Channel) -After the south lost the Civil War a lot of men had lost their jobs and money. So 6 confederate veterans, in Tennessee with free time on there hands, came up with the group the KKK. When this group of men got together one man, Richard R. Reed, suggested the word kuklos. Then Captain John B. Kennedy, who had an ear for alliteration, added the word Clan. After some thinking the group came up with the Ku Klux Klan. (According to library.thinkquest.org) Where And When -It officially started in 1866 at a little village called Pulaski, near Nashville, Tenessee. Why did they start the KKK Why do they where what they wear The best known symbol of the Ku Klux Klan is the Klan Robe and Hood. You can often find the argument that the robe is worn as a symbol of humility for their Christian rituals, like the robes which are worn by monks. The mask helps the members stay anonymous and by that the 'selfless dedication to our God, our nation, our race, etc.' But it is a fact, that this robe is always worn when a Klan members does anything illegal. The robes also cause the people to be afraid.
