Transcript of Singapore
Singapore is a small island city-state in Southeast Asia, located at the southern tip of the Malayan Peninsula between Malaysia and Indonesia.
Singapore has a total land area of 714.3 km².
Singapore’s Gini coefficient of 0.478 last year
The history started around the A.D 1298 when the first settlements were established.
"Pu-luo-chung", or the "island at the end of a peninsula".

Located at the tip of the Malay Peninsula, the natural meeting point of sea routes, the city served as a flourishing trading post and a fishing town.
The Republic of Singapore is a city-state with a governing structure patterned on the British system of parliamentary government; the government was headed by a prime minister (Lee Hsien Loong) who led a cabinet of ministers of state selected from the ranks of the members of Parliament.
Singapore has a highly developed trade-oriented market economy.
Singapore has a strategic port which makes it more competitive than many of its neighbours in carrying out such entrepot activities.
A Multicultural Kaleidoscope: Today, the ethnic Chinese form 74.2% of the Singaporean population, with the country’s original inhabitants – the Malays, comprising of 13.4%. The Indians make up 9.2%, and Eurasians, Peranakans and others making up a combined 3.2%.
As a reflection of its collage of cultures, Singapore has adopted one representative language for each of the four major ethnic or 'racial' groups. The four official languages in Singapore's constitution are English, Chinese, Malay and Tamil.

This means that the “We” is important, people belong to in-groups (families, clans or organizations) who look after each other in exchange for loyalty.
Communication is indirect and the harmony of the group has to be maintained, open conflicts are avoided.
Masculinity / Femininity
Singapore scores 48 and is in the “middle” of the scale but more on the feminine side.
Conflicts are avoided in private and work life and consensus at the end is important.
This means that the softer aspects of culture such as leveling with others, consensuses, sympathy for the underdog are valued and encouraged.
During discussions being cautious is important, not to being too persistent.
In Singapore people abide to many rules not because they have need for structure but because of high PDI.
Singapore scores 8 on this dimension and thus scores very low on this dimension.
Singaporeans call their society a “Fine country. You’ll get a fine for everything”.
Long term orientation
Singapore shows cultural qualities supporting long term investment such as perseverance, sustained efforts, slow results, thrift; being sparse with resources, ordering relationship by status and having a sense of shame.
