Transcript of Ceramics Project

Each stoneware piece is hand cut and incised, then glazed in subtle shades of gray. White stoneware is glazed and fired multiple times to bring forth hundreds of tiny jewel-like details on a ladder of rectangles. Gray, unglazed stoneware accented with splashes of white and red glaze evoke the feeling of looking into the distant night sky. Blue-green tiles with light-catching copper touches wend their way upward like fields on a hillside. The white stoneware segments were crafted separately and assembled to create an expression of how we begin unformed from the earth, which sustains and nourishes us, then unfold our individual natures and take our places as part of the entire universe.
