March 1, 1803
On March 1, 1803 Ohio became the 17th state.

December 10, 1817
Mississippi joined the Union as the 20th state on December 10th, 1817
Name is from: the Mississippi River, which forms the western border.
March 15, 1820
Maine became the 23rd state on March 15, 1820, as part of the Missouri Compromise. This allowed Missouri to enter the union as a slave state and Maine as a free state.
January 26, 1837
Michigan became the 26th state on January 26, 1837. There was a boundary dispute between Ohio and Michigan that prevented it from becoming a state in 1835 which was called the Toledo War.

December 28, 1846
Iowa became the 29th state on December 28, 1844. It was acquired by the U.S in the Louisiana Purchase in 1803. Iowa struggled to become a state there were many constitutional conventions before it officially became a state.

On April 30, 1812 Louisiana became the 18th state.
It was originally colonized by the French during the 18th century, it became U.S. territory as part of the historic Louisiana Purchase in 1803, this "purchase" doubled the size of the United States.

Indiana a.k.a the "land of the Indians" Became the 19th state on December 11, 1816.

After the American Revolution, Illinois became the 21st state on December 3rd, 1818.
Alabama became the 22nd state when it joined the union on December 14th, 1819.
On August 10, 1821 Missouri became the 24th state. The state was acquired by the U.S as a part of the Louisiana Purchase. It was also apart of the Missouri Compromise, which allowed Missouri to enter the union as a slave state.
Arkansas became the 25th state on June 15th, 1836
The U.S acquired this state in the Louisiana purchase, and it became the 9th state to secede the union.
On December 29, 1845 Texas became the 28th state. The U.S acquired Texas in the Louisiana Purchase in 1803.
There was conflict about Florida being divided into two states, East and West Florida, it officially became the 27th state on March 3, 1845.

On May 26, 1848 Wisconsin became the 30th state. There were two state conventions before Wisconsin could become a state.
On September 9, 1850, as a part of the compromise of 1850 California became the 31st state.
Minnesota became the 32nd state on May 11, 1858. The U.S acquired the territory through the Louisiana Purchase in 1803.
On February 14th, 1859 Oregon became the 33rd state. The Oregon Territory had been officially made in 1848.
