Transcript of Platforms

A Platform is... characteristics of a platform A demarcated “space,” (physical and/or conceptual) that enables groups to self-assemble
Organizes participants as a network (a rhizome), not a hierarchy
A “hothouse” Organized around a common vision/mission
Permeable boundaries: anyone can enter, anyone can leave
Unplanned activities; these are determined by the interactions among the members of the platform
Protean, changeable, and homeostatic. Activities/clusters are born, live, die; some activities short-lived, others thrive for longer periods
more "sandbox" than "amusement park"
