Basic History
A Religious Holiday for Christians

The holiday date is based off of the when the full moon is after the vernal equinox (March 21st). Easter can be between March 22 and April 25th of every year.

This year it is March 27th.
The origins are unknown, but some believe it is based off of the Pagan (Eostre) holiday where they celebrated fertility and the goddess of Spring.

But why d0 Christians celebrate Easter?
Those who are religious celebrate this day by going to church to worship and remember Jesus.
People also feast and have a huge dinner with family and friends. Most meals have lamb as the main dish.
The first game played Medieval times was a egg-roll.
We now use eggs for games and for children activities.
Types of activities: egg dying and egg search
Children are given an Easter Basket full of chocolate, toys and bunny/egg shaped objects
The most popular is the Easter Bunny. For the holiday it represents fertility, but for children the bunny delivers treats.
The second most popular is the egg. For the holiday it represents new life, but for children it is for playing games.
Easter candy is also very popular with children and adults.
There is also an Easter Parade in New York City is celebrate the holiday and Spring.

Easter is celebrated in Christianity, because of Jesus. Jesus was put on the cross and died, but later came back to life (resurrected). Before Easter Lent (40 days) is celebrated to symbolize the days he struggled before he died and Lent is over with the celebration of Mardi Gras. The day he is resurrected is seen as a day of rebirth and new life. This has become the day to celebrate Easter.
