This prezi is focusing on postive self-talk, how children can use affirmations to encourage positive self-talk, and how activities can help them achieve this. It will also outline how children can deal with negative self-talk and mental health issues.

I can do it! By Alanah Smith, Alice Hamilton, Anastasia Caras and Stephanie Casmi. So what is positive self-talk? Positive self-talk is when you as an individual talk to yourself in a way that is considered uplifting and beneficial.
Every time you utilise positive-self talk, you are maintaining positivity and fostering happiness within your life. Examples of positive self-talk I am special and unique
I am learning and growing as a person
I am capable
I am a worthwhile person
I am loving and kind
I can accomplish any task I set my mind to
I am a good person and a good friend
I am beautiful, inside and out What is negative self-talk? Unlike positive self-talk, negatively talking to yourself can have detrimental effects on your wellbeing and how you view yourself and the world around you. Negative self-talk is when you talk or think with negative words or phrases. These phrases tend to put yourself down and don’t focus on any positives at all. Sometimes negative thoughts can lead to developing irrational ideas about yourself. Examples of Negative self-talk I look ugly today
She didn’t talk to me much today, it must be me
I am nothing compared to those people
I am so stupid
Maybe they don’t enjoy my company
No one loves me, I’m such a loser Types of mental illnesses:

•Eating disorders
•Bipolar disorder
•Self harm
•Excessive alcohol and other drug use Symptoms to look out for:

•Bizarre or unusual thinking
•Significant changes of mood
•Restless, agitated and disorganised behaviour
•Significant impairment of social functioning
•Significant impairment in self-care
•Suicidal thoughts
•Destructive or high risk behaviour

A perfect activity to encourage positive self-talk and affirmations would be for students to create their own personal shield. This will allow students to develop their own personal motto and an image of their coat of arms. In addition to this, it will allow them with an opportunity to outline their key strengths and positive aspects about who they are. “I’m so dumb…” “I have no friends…” “I’m so ugly…” “I can’t…” “No one wants to play with me…” Activity one: Replacing negative thoughts with positive thoughts

Resilience: An individual’s ability to "bounce back" even after facing setbacks and hardships. Books.
Here is a list of books with affirming and positive messages for children. These can be used when discussing affirmations and positive self-talk within the classroom:

- The Affirmation Web, A Believe in Yourself Adventure by Lori Lite
- I Turn to the Light, A Book of Healing Affirmations by Connie Bowen
- I Like Me by Nancy L. Carlson
Affirmations Box To combat negative self talk, students can make their own classroom affirmations box, and each day, they put a positive affirmation into their box, and this is the affirmation they will work on through out the day. Students can design their own affirmations box so that it is special and unique to them.
Students will need a box (such as a shoe box), some coloured paper, coloured pencils and texta’s and whatever else the student wants to make their affirmations box special. How to make the affirmation box Students can write their own affirmations, such as
‘I am a good friend’
‘I am good at_____’
‘I try my best at____’

And each day, students put a new affirmation in their affirmation box that they choose to focus on that day. Writing up the affirmations Activity: Affirmations Link to video we created on positive self-talk:
