Transcript of The Solar System

The Sun
Mercury
*It is also the smallest planet in the Solar System.
*Mercury is 57,910,000 km from the sun! Making it the closest planet to it.
Venus
*Venus is the second planet from the sun, it is 108,200,000 km away from it.
*Venus atmosphere is made up of mostly carbon dioxide and the planet's extreme high temperatures hit almost 480 degrees Celsius (900 degrees Fahrenheit).
*Venus spins backwards when compared to the other planets. This means that the sun rises in the West and sets in the East .
Earth
*Earth is the third planet from the sun.
Mars
*One day on Mars takes just a little over 24 hours (the time it takes for Mars to rotate or spin once). Mars makes a complete orbit around the sun (a year in Martian time) in 687 Earth days.
*Mars like the other inner planets has many volcanoes.
* Mars is the fourth planet from the sun at a distance of 277,900,000 km.
Jupiter
*The fifth planet from the sun at a distance of 778,500,000 km.
*All of the planets would fit inside Jupiter.
*One day on Jupiter takes about 10 hours . Jupiter makes a complete orbit around the sun in about 12 Earth years.
Saturn
*Saturn has thousands rings around it.
*Saturn is 1,433,000,000 km away from the sun!
Uranus
*The seventh planet from the sun at a distance of 2,887,000,000 km.
*The axis of this planet is so tilted compared to the other planets, it rotates sideways.
Neptune
*Neptune is the windiest planet in our solar system.
*The eighth planet from the sun at a distance of 4,503,000,000 km.
*One day on Neptune takes about 16 hours (the time it takes for Neptune to rotate or spin once). Neptune makes a complete orbit around the sun (a year in Neptunian time) in about 165 Earth years (60,190 Earth days).
THE ASTEROID BELT
*The Asteroid Belt separates
the inner planets-Mercury,Venus,Earth, and Mars-
from
the outer planets-Jupiter,Saturn,Uranus, and Neptune!
The blue planet - Our home!
*One day on Mercury (the time it takes for Mercury to rotate or spin once) takes 59 Earth days. Mercury makes a complete orbit around the sun (a year in Mercury time) in just 88 Earth days.
*One day on Earth takes 24 hours (this is the time it takes the Earth to rotate or spin once). Earth makes a complete orbit around the sun (a year in Earth time) in about 365 days.
*Mars has two moons named Phobos and Deimos.
*Jupiter has 50 known moons, with an additional 17 moons awaiting confirmation of their discovery -- that is a total of 67 moons.
*Saturn has 53 known moons with an additional 9 moons awaiting confirmation of their discovery.
*One day on Saturn takes 10.7 hours . Saturn makes a complete orbit around the sun in 29 Earth years .
*Saturn is a gas-giant planet and does not have a solid surface.
*Neptune has 13 moons.
*The asteroid belt is the region of the Solar System located roughly between the orbits of the planets Mars and Jupiter.
*Asteroids are solid, rocky and irregular bodies.
Uranus is the only planet that lays on its side
