Imagery
The casket represents Doodles death.
The dead scarlet ibis also represents Doodles death.
Black clouds began to gather in the southwest, and he kept watching them, trying to pull the oars a little faster.
Dead birds is bad luck... Specially red dead birds! This is foreshadowing how doodle is going to die because when doodle dies he is like a dead scarlet ibis
The flower garden was stained with rotting brown magnolia petals and the ironweeds grew rank amid the purple phlox.
...if an oriole sings in the elm, its song seems to die up in the leaves, a silvery dust.
the mood for this example is how the garden was peaceful and beautiful
The mood for this example is how it gives the place a kind of happy peaceful mood
Doodle, you will be missed and wherever you may be,I am sorry. I shouldn't have pushed you so hard and I regret leaving you to die and I still know somehow its my fault. Even though he was crippled, he tried and I couldn't tell how he died but I will miss him. I will never forget you and will carry the sorrow for the rest of my life. And doodle you were a great kid and I love you and I know you will be happier in heaven.
Yet if I ever see a scarlet ibis there would be a small spark of grief but, may god be with you. He was a good person and a better brother. I regret showing you you're coffin and if I had not maybe, just maybe you could have lived. I regret all i have done to you amen
Black clouds are foreshadowing his death because thunder is dark and so is death so the clouds coming represent the coming of doodles death.
Theme
"I did not know then that pride is a wonderful, terrible, a seed that bears two vines, life and death."
Throughout the story the brother stresses the double sidedness of pride. His pride pushes him to Doodle a life away from his life as a crippled kid. When his obsession with turning Doodle into his ideal brother goes too far, it pushes his brother to an early death.
