Global Warming Research Project
By: Emily Hall
A continuous increase in the overall temperature of the Earth's atmosphere generally attributed to the greenhouse effect caused by increased levels of carbon dioxide, chlorofluorocarbons, and other pollutants.
What is the greenhouse effect and what is the significance of carbon dioxide?
Greenhouse effect- A term used to describe the heating of the atmosphere owing to the presence of carbon dioxide and other gases.
What is Global Warming?
The significance of carbon dioxide is the that this gas can be influenced by human activity.
Name one natural factor that could also be causing a climate shift.
The Earth's orbit around the sun is one natural factor that could be causing a climate change.
What is the evidence that global warming activists use to advance the idea that humans are causing global warming?
Deforestation and the burning of fossil fuels is the evidence that global activists use for the idea and reasoning that humans are causing global warming.
Name one scientist who shares this view and provide a quote.
"I suspect that the higher level of belief among ocean sciences and particularly geophysics represents second order belief (i.e. support for a perceived consensus) rather than personal research on AGW detection/attribution or a careful survey of the literature. How to square this with the often reported 97% consensus? Well, ‘climate scientists’ in these surveys typically includes economists, ecologists etc., nearly all probably representing second order belief." - Judith Curry
What are the arguments that suggest man is NOT causing global warming?
The argument that global warming had stopped in 1998, the next theory is that we have long winters and cold summers so global warming is not even happening , and the last theory is that man-made change is minor.
Name one scientist who shares this view and provide a quote.
“I think the climate has been changing for billions of years,” he said. “If it’s warming now, it may cool off later. I’m not in favour of just taking short-term isolated situations and depleting our resources to keep our climate just the way it is today. “I’m not necessarily of the school that we are causing it all, I think the world is causing it.”
-Dr. Buzz Aldrin
Do you believe that man is causing global warming or not? Why or why not?
I believe that man is not causing global warming. My belief is this because of the fact that in Russia, they are enduring the strongest winter in 70 years with temperatures as low as -58 degrees Fahrenheit. The polar bear population has actually increased not decreased, there are between 20,000 to 25,000 polar bears alive today which is a number that is a whole lot bigger than it was 40 years ago. Also, the Antarctic's ice has been increasing at a rate of half a million square kilometers per year.
Provide a data chart or graph to back up your opinion.
If you don't believe man is causing global warming then what do you believe is responsible for rising global temperatures?
The natural emissions of carbon dioxide from volcanic eruptions, and there is also the factor of water vapor. There are also many other factors of course with reasoning.
Do you think we should still reduce the burning of fossil fuels in an effort to preserve the environment?
Yes, I do think that we should still reduce the burning of fossil fuels. Because on either opinion they are still harming the environment.
