SCOPE OF STUDY
HOW DOES THE INSTALLATION ART WORK on THE CONCEPT
Plastic bottles Installation Art is a design for a temporary interactive artwork with 800 pieces of plastic bottles.
One of the main components of the Artwork is a
wire-maze panel system, that will be installed like a maze-playground.
The main usage for the Artwork is a small playground during the day time, which can be an aesthetic piece in the night time.
Research Question 1:
What is the main feature in Installation Art in the context of waste plastic bottles?
Research Question 2:
How does the Installation Art work in scope of second life?
background of STUDY
These problems revolve around the issue of garbage and this study refers to awareness-campaign through an artistic medium.
Plastic bottles have taken up space in landfills.
The landfill-space crisis is problematic in cities which end up using ocean as a dumping ground, resulting in depleted fish stocks, polluted beaches and health issues for the inhabitants.
(life after oil, 2011)
Plastic bottles floating on the surface of the oceans have fatal consequences such as the death of sea creatures.
Plastic in the oceans is responsible for the deaths of millions of sea animals.
(life after oil, 2011)
Plastics take hundreds of years to fully degrade. (life after oil, 2011)
Plastic takes a long time to degrade.
Since community art projects are frequently used as a tool for creating dialogue, they also assume a role as a means of education about social issues. Therefore, community art projects are structured around learning experiences, and engaging people in an enlightening process that promotes new ways of thinking about issues and identity.
Duxbury and Gillete 2007
The Arts communicate and speak to us in ways that teach literacy and enhance our lives. We must continue to find a place for arts programs and partnerships not only for what it teaches students about art, but for what it teaches us all about the world we live in.
Find example of Sustainable Installation Art that take enormous quantities of everyday materials (compact discs, plastic bags, rubber tires or aluminum cans).
A great example of sustainable art is the “Plastic waterfall” by Katherine Harvey. 19 ft wide by 17 ft tall showed the potential of eco art (Meinhold, 2011). Made from recycled plastic HIGHLIGHTed Water Pollution.
MAIN FEATURES OF INSTALLATION ART
JANEK SCHAEFER. (1994)
1. Content-Context: Installation Artwork with specific need of spaces by “simply put content-context of
medium of artistic expression,
RE-COLLECTING plastic bottles, giving them a second life to become a useful-unique form.
IN WHAT CIRCUMSTANCE:
Giving a second life to "PET" plastic bottles that has been seen a wide range of uses.
2. Process: Started finding ideas
- recollecting the bottles
- display to be an attractive Art piece with social value.
3. Documentation: The process of record from the early build until the end.
4. Mixed Media Environments: the Researcher tries to use combination of media and materials (plastic bottles as the medium, and will use lights and paints to deliver message to public).
5. Site Specific: the Researcher simply make the Art form into modular piece that can be fit in any playground-land and easy to be created-continuously by audience.
6. Public & Private Space: This Installation Art will be built more into social space (playground).
Transforming discarded plastic bottles into Installation Art in Playgrounds.
The Cup City project exhibited a small fraction of the 3 days of festival consumption with recycling depot that was set up to insert plastic cups and bottles into the project walls and ceiling, turning the structure into a sort of giant net or inside-out recycling bin.

LET THE KIDS
OUT AND PLAY
Kids are known to follow by example, this installation Art may send a message to children to
Reduce, Reuse and Recycle
their waste now and in the future, Reuse things that may otherwise be garbage.
Giving a second life by reusing plastic bottles is the first step towards conserving, living in an environmentally sustainable way.
There are so many things that we as individuals can do to prevent and reduce global warming. Even the smallest things in the lifestyle can make a big difference.

Art is the native language of children and a powerful universal tool for nurturing children’s innate creativity. Research indicates that a child who is exposed to the arts acquires a special ability to think creatively. – International Child Art Foundation

Environmental pollution by plastics
Plastic is versatile due to people using it in their everyday life. Plastic is not easily degraded and indestructible, It represents a major source of air and water pollution.
Like many other countries, Malaysia is also facing an escalating problem of environmental pollution by plastic waste.
What happens after the waste is collected is generally not the concern of the public because the problem has been taken away from the doorstep.
PRODUCTS OF PETROLEUM INDUSTRY
Being aware of the process behind the production of plastics can encourage consumers to think more carefully about how they use and dispose of such plastics.
