12/12/12 3rd A Pocosin is a type a bog, it's name means "swamp on a hill", it is formed by and get's it's moisture from precipitation . It is made up of nutrient-poor acidic soil and water. What Is Pocosins There are multiple animals found in a pocosin:
Oposoms, Raccoons, River Otters, Mink, Musk Rats, Northern Bobwhites, Alligators, Turtles, Snakes, Red and Grey Fox, Tundra Swan and more. Some plants are the Venus fly trap, Pitcher plants, Butterworts, Sundews, Blatterworts, Pondspice, Carolina Goldenrod, Spring-flower Goldenrod, Carolina Spleenwort, and Carolina Bog Asphodel. What type of wildlife is found in a Pocosin? This wetland provides a habitat for many different plants and animals. It provides food and shelter for wildlife. Pocosins absorb the run-off rain water and control flooding; nutrients, silt,and agricultural run-off are filtered also.
