Picture Frames Frames evolved from the borders which appeared 3-4,000 years ago on vase and tomb paintings, and later on mosaics, enclosing narrative scenes and decorative panels. Picture frames have traditionally been made metal, gold silver bronze, which is still the most common and most prestigious material, although other materials are also used, including aluminum, plastics or polystyrene, even sea shells a fillet (also referred to as a slip) is a small piece of moulding which fits inside a larger frame or, typically, underneath or in between matting, used for decorative purposes. a mat is a thin, flat piece of paper-based material included within a picture frame, which serves as additional decoration and to perform several other, more practical functions, such as separating the art from the glass. One of the earliest frame examples was a discovery made in an Egyptian tomb dating back to 2nd century A.D. the first carved wooden frames as we know them today appeared on small panel paintings in twelfth and thirteenth century Europe. A digital photo frame (also called digital media frame) is a picture frame that displays digital photos without the need to print them or use a computer. Mini digital picture frames as keychains The most recent picture to this day is a digital picture frame that has wifi so you can just get pictures off the internet.
