Roald Amundsen's life ROALD AMUDSEN In 1872-1928 he was the first Norwegian polar explorer to reach the South Pole. His first experience in the Antarctic was with Adrien de Gerlache in 1899 Crew of the Fram 1912 - Amundsen centre with bowler hat He originally began a career studying medicine at the University of Christiana. he was planning to be the first to the north pole. he found out that robert peary had beaten him.
