Transcript of Melanie Martinez

Melanie Adele Martinez
Melanie Adele Martinez (born April 28, 1995) is an American singer and songwriter.
Melanie Martinez
She was a member of Team Adam in the third season of the American television vocal talent show The Voice and is one of the most popular performers to come out of the show that season.
In 2012, Melanie Adele Martinez became a contestant on season three of the American television program The Voice, where she auditioned singing Britney Spears's "Toxic". Three of the four judges, Adam Levine, Cee Lo Green and Blake Shelton, hit the "I Want You" button for her. Martinez chose Adam Levine to be her coach.
In the Battle Round, Martinez competed against Caitlin Michelle. They performed a duet of the Ellie Goulding song "Lights". Martinez won and moved on to the Knockout Round. Caitlin Michele was stolen by Cee Lo Green and also moved on.
In the Knockout Round, Martinez was paired with Sam James. She chose to sing La Roux’s "Bulletproof". Levine eliminated James, and Martinez moved on to the Live Rounds as one of the five remaining members of Team Adam. In week one of the Live Rounds, Martinez sang "Hit the Road Jack". Public vote saved Team Adam members Amanda Brown and Bryan Keith. Levine then chose Martinez over Loren Allred and Joselyn Rivera to remain in the competition.
In week three, Martinez’s performance of "Seven Nation Army" finished the voting period at #10 on the iTunes Top 200 Single Chart, causing her iTunes votes to be multiplied by ten. This occurred again in week four, when "Too Close" ended the voting period at #6.
Martinez was eliminated by audience vote in week five, along with the fellow Team Adam member Amanda Brown, leaving Levine with no artists. In response, Martinez said, "I never expected to get this far and this is beyond what I've ever dreamed of. I'm just so glad I got to express who I am as an artist and really touch people's hearts because that was the ultimate goal."
After the show, Martinez began working independently on original material. She released her debut single, "Dollhouse" on April 22, 2014 with a music video, which currently has over 27 million views as of December 2015. The song was produced and cowritten by NYC songwriting duo Kinetics & One Love. On April 7, 2014, Martinez announced that she'd been signed to Atlantic Records and that she would be going on tour. She also announced her debut EP, "Dollhouse", which was released on May 19, 2014.
Martinez's song "Carousel" was featured in a preview for FX's miniseries American Horror Story: Freak Show, with the theme song also being a riff on the song.
In the run up to the album release, Martinez released her new single "Soap" on July 10, 2015, and debuted "Sippy Cup" on July 31, followed by the album 14 days later.

on June 2, 2015, Martinez released the single "Pity Party" from her debut album Cry Baby.

Cry Baby received generally favorable reviews from music critics, who praised the album's ambitious conceptual themes and production, as well as Martinez's vocal delivery. The album was released on August 14, 2015, by Atlantic Records, through digital download, CD and vinyl formats. The vinyl and CD have special packaging which includes a story book which follows the album by illustrator Chloe Tersigni. Cry Baby debuted at number 6 on the Billboard 200 with 40,000 units sold in its first week; it also debuted at the top of the Alternative Albums Chart. Cry Baby included the songs "Cry Baby", "Dollhouse", "Sippy Cup", "Carousel", "Alphabet Boy", "Soap", "Training Wheels", "Pity Party", "Tag, Your It", "Milk and Cookies", "Pacify Her", "Mrs. Potato Head", and "Mad Hatter". And the Additon songs on her Delux Cry Baby album include "Play Date", "Teddy Bear", and "Cake"

Melanie named her album Cry Baby because she was often called that in school and was bullied many times. So she made a character named Cry Baby, Cry Baby is her younger self.
Cry Baby was brought into this messed up world with an older brother, mother and father.
Cry
Her father was having an affair, causing her mom to fall into depression and drink away her emotions. Her brother also was addicted to drugs, as he smoked cannabis daily ("Dollhouse"). Cry Baby's mother cruelly murdered her father and his mistress after having a few too many drinks - with the influence of jealousy that overtook her ("Sippy Cup"). Soon, she meets a boy with whom she falls in love and enters a one-sided the relationship was. It took her a while to realize how toxic the relationship was, but she does break up with him eventually. ("Carousel")
Cry Baby met another boy whom she felt a connection to, but was scared and afraid to say that she loved him ("Soap"). After a while of contemplating, she finally decided that it was time to take it to the next level and get the wheels rolling ("Training Wheels"). She invited all her friends and her newfound lover to her birthday, but to her disappointment, no one showed up. This drew the line for Cry Baby and she freaked out ("Pity Party"). Now that she was single once again, she had become vulnerable to the 'wolves' that were on the prowl. She was snatched up by a 'wolf' ("Tag, Your It"). This was when she started to go a little crazy, poisoning him with poisonous milk and cookies ("Milk and Cookies").
After escaping, Cry Baby had now discovered her old lover with another girl and was overtaken by jealously. She then thought of love as a stupid concept and wanted to prevent him from receiving happiness in and from a relationship ("Pacify Her"). Now that she possesses more confidence within, she has begun to formulate her own opinions about certain things, which in this case includes plastic surgery. Cry Baby didn't understand the concept of pain equalling beauty, becoming fully confident in who she was ("Mrs. Potato Head), and accepting the craziness that consumed her ("Mad Hatter"). Ultimately, she learns what it means to love oneself, to have self-respect, and to have self-worth. More so, she has learned why it is important to have these qualities.
