Students will- Think, Pair, Share* what we know about frogs
Teacher could- Clarify vocabulary, information as it occurs in text
Teacher will- Show 3-2-1 chart
Students will- Think, Pair, Share about what they learned about frogs.
After reading a nonfiction text or article, (in this lesson, I used Frogs, by Gail Gibbons) introduce the 3-2-1 chart to the class. How to:
The 3-2-1 Strategy 2 Use the same approach as in "step a".
Sample student response for the book Frogs might be
"most frogs jump ten times their body length". b) Write 2 interesting things about the topic For the text, Frog, a sample question students might have is "How long do frogs live?"
Again, use the same procedure as in "step a". c) Write 1 question you have about the topic using the Gradual Release of Responsibility (GRR) model, the teacher will determine when her students are ready to move away from whole group lessons on the 3-2-1 strategy
practice 3-2-1 strategy in small groups using nonfiction text at the students' level
review 3-2-1 strategy briefly during a whole group lesson and have students use the strategy to read an article by themselves Follow up lessons For this particular lesson, the students will turn to their Think Pair Share* partner and share what they learned about frogs.
Partners will share their ideas with the class.
The teacher will choose 3 ideas to write on the class 3-2-1 chart.
