Children's Books The Very Hungry Caterpillar Where the Wild Things Are Dr. Seuss The Very Hungry Caterpillar by Eric Carle is a beloved childrens book which has sold over 30 million copies since being published in 1969. In the story, a caterpillar hatches from its egg and begins eating its way through oranges, cake, ice cream, apples, and more. At the end the very full caterpillar transforms into a beautiful butterfly. Where the Wild Things Are by Maurice Sendak has sold over 19 million copies since being published in 1963. In the story, Max is a young boy whose mom sent him to bed after him misbehaving. With his imagination, Max sails to a far off island which is inhabitable by monsters. Max becomes King of the Wild Things and they have a wild rumpus! Max then realizes he is home sick and sails back to his house where he finds a hot dinner waiting on him. Dr. Seuss has written and illustrated over 60 beloved books including The Cat In the Hat, One Fish Two Fish Red Fish Blue Fish, Green Eggs and Ham, and There is a Wocket in My Pocket. Many of Dr. Seuss's books include his trademark trisyllabic meter.
