The war was the result of North Vietnam and the
Vietcong attempting to overthrow the South Vietnamese government . Vietnam War The war lasted from 1959 to April 30, 1975 . Battle between Nationalist forces attempting to make
country of Vietnam a communist government . United States and South Vietnam attempted to prevent spread of communism . Primarily fought in Southern Vietnam The important Domino effect was U.S. intervention in the war that convinced nearby countries ; Thailand , Indonesia , Philippines , Singapore and Malaysia not to become communists like Vietnam did . Viet Cong was also known as NLF National Liberation Front Prezi By : Rita Kirk Brooklyn Tanner The Cold War was the U.S. opposing communism. Relates to Vietnam War because communists wanted to take over South Vietnam and the U.S. tried to help them fight communism . Vietnam War escalated the Cold War and destroyed every communist economy that contributed to it . U.S. involvement in Vietnam began
on November 1, 1955. President
Eisenhower deployed Military
Assistance Advisory Group to help
train the South Vietnamese army. The war caused a lot of humans to die;
3 to 4 million Vietnamese from both sides,
1.5 to 2 million Laotions and Cambodians
and 58,159 U.S. soldiers. In the end, the Vietnamese actually won the war
even though there were more casualties of Vietnamese people than American people. Due to the fact that they became communists, that's why the Vietnamese won the war.
