Transcript of Jenifer Chong Taks Question

All living organisms require energy to sustain their living functions. Green plants in this forest obtain energy for their growth and survival by.... A. Converting radiant energy from the sun into chemical energy through the process of photosynthesis.

B. Converting radiant energy from the sun into chemical energy through the process of respiration.

C. Converting thermal energy from the pond into chemical energy through the process of transpiration.

D. Converting thermal energy from the soil into chemical energy through the process of absorption. Breaking down the question:
All living organisms require energy to sustain their living functions also known as.... (their niche)
Quick question: How much energy is transferred throughout the energy pyramid? Green plants in this forest obtain energy for their growth and survival by....
GREEN means what process is taking place???
(Photosynthesis)
What happens during photosynthesis?
The energy from the sun allows a process known as photosynthesis to take place. What happens is... carbon dioxide is converted into compounds that produces food/sugar for the plant.
Quick recap: What is needed for photosynthesis???
(Carbon Dioxide, water, and sunlight which produces sugar and oxygen)
Is energy absorbed or released??? A. Converting radiant energy from the sun into chemical energy through the process of photosynthesis?

What did we just discuss? B. Converting radiant energy from the sun into chemical energy through the process of respiration.

It DOES convert radiant energy from the sun into chemical energy BUT thats not the process of respiration.
Respiration is....
the process of using sugar and oxygen to produce carbon dioxide and water.
That doesn't exactly help the plants in the forest obtain energy for themself. C. Converting thermal energy from the pond into chemical energy through the process of transpiration.

First of all... What is transpiration?
(When water evaporates from the surface of a leaf)
Does that have any relation to how green plants receive ENERGY for their survival? D. Converting thermal energy from the soil into chemical energy through the process of absorption.

converting thermal energy from the soil....
absorption....
What is absorption?
(Passing through a medium without any interference)
Does that really make that plants green?
Does that really help the plants at all?
