The purpose of this text is to give to know the importance of pragmatics and the relation of it with the second language, so for that reason there is now the new concept ‘interlanguage’, making a comparison between second language acquisition and acquisition of pragmatics.
Comparative studies were applied. Some of them are refinement of elicitation tasks, description of L1 speech acts, description of L2 speech acts and comparison between native and nonnative speakers speech acts. The production of speech acts differ because native and nonnative perform them differently. Semantic formulas are different in use and in content . The same happens with their form. Knowledge gained Pragmatics is very important in the SLA; and although it is developed depending on the context and social interaction, it also has to do more with the grammar competence. In the way, pragmatic competence improve, the grammar competence too. Second language acquisition is very related with the pragmatic competence, because the students acquire the language in the way they make part of interactions with the other culture; so, the necessity of achieving communicating purposes in the second language, ought students to develop linguistic competence. what is pragmatics from this study? Pragmatics is the study of communicative acts and their relation with the context in which they are produced. In other words, pragmatics is the study of how the context contributes to the meaning of words. how was pragmatics studied?
Pragmatics was studied from first the speech acts theory taking into account representatives, directives commisives, expressives and declarations. Besides the Illocutionary and perlocutionary forces were studied. Second, from conversational structures(turn taking, back channeling and conversational boundaries. Third from conversational implicature (maxims of quantity, quality, relation and manner) in order to comprehend the message behind an ilocutionary act. how does this research contribute to this research?
