Where it all started
Richard Starkey was born on July 7, 1940 in LiverpooL, England.
aFTER HIS PARENTS divorced WHEN HE WAS THREE YEARS OLD, HIS EVENTUAL STEPFATHER, hARRY GRAVES, ENCOURgED RINGO TO PLAY MUSIC.
he WAS A SICKLY CHILD, WITH APPENDICITIS AT SIX and FELL INTO A COMA, AT 13, DEVELOPED CASES OF PLEURISY, BUT EVENTUALLY became WELL ENOUGH TO attend high school AND SHOWED SKILL IN ART AND DRAMA.
His life in the Beatles
1959 joined the Raving Texans, where he adopted the stage name Ringo Starr, for the rings he wore and starr because it sounded cowboyish.
October 1962, renamed the Hurricanes and played gigs in Hamburg where he met The Beatles, who still had Pete Best as their drummer.
AND one night, RINGO PLAYED FOR THE BEATLES WHEN PETE WAS UNAVAILABLE, THIS KEPT HAPPENING AND RINGO PLAYED WITH PAUL, GEORGE, AND JOHN MORE AND MORE UNTIL THE THREE GUYS DECIDED TO replace pete with RINGO IN PLAYING HIS FIRST REAL SHOW AT THE HORTICULTURAL SOCIETY ON AUGUST 18, 1962.
