Technology in my classroom
Computers for every student
Help me teach, not replace me
Other technology I find helpful in my classroom
Some people still believe small children don't have the capability to use computers. I want even the youngest kids to have access.
Views on technology:
Past and Present
1. the branch of knowledge that deals with the creation and use of technical means and their interrelation with life, society, and the environment, drawing upon such subjects as industrial arts, engineering, applied science, and pure science.
2. the terminology of an art, science, etc.; technical nomenclature.
3. a technological process, invention, method, or the like.
4. the sum of the ways in which social groups provide themselves with the material objects of their civilization.
"Technology Definition | Definition of Technology at Dictionary.com." Dictionary.com | Find the Meanings and Definitions of Words at Dictionary.com. Web. 15 Oct. 2009. <http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/technology>.
Technology is a tool that makes tasks easier and can enhance the learning experience.
Technology is a tool for learning and shouldn't replace teacher.
When used correctly, it can really enhance the experience.
Just because it is done with technology doesn't mean it is better.
The way it is used is more important than the technology itself.
Reflection on readings
Advocating for technology
Views on technology:
Technology in student learning:
Enhance amount absorbed
Make learning fun
Some technologies are more important than others:
I find these especially important:
Times when I would alter technology:
Children need "people skills"
Children need to learn to play with other children
Group work is an important skill to learn
Children should learn to read and write on paper
When drawing and painting, technology isn't always needed
Students do need technology to learn.
Maybe technology isn't needed for
students to learn material in school, but technology is a critical life skill especially in the work environment. Everyone needs to know how to use technology to be sucessful in a career.
Technology is good for students because:
It enhances their learning
They have fun while learning
Children need to learn how to use technology
Technology is good for teachers because:
Children pay better attention in class when the lesson is fun
Technology helps children have fun in class
It helps the teacher get the point across more clearly
There will be more and better technology by the time I get into the classroom
Younger children will be using technology most people see as "adult" such a cell phones and more advanced computer programs
I can see cell phones being integrated into classrooms and also other "out of class" technologies such as iPods, Twitter, Facebook, etc.
Distance learning like Podcasts and webcam programs will probably be used in more and more classrooms
All students will most likely have laptops of their own or individual cell phones
This lesson plan teaches children about butterflies.
The only way technology is integrated is in the children looking up butterfly facts and photos. They also raise butterflies from caterpillars. I would use this lesson plan because it keeps the children involved and interested in the lesson, and the technology used in it is great, but I would incorperate more technology. I would use the SMARTboard more and allow the children to do more with the computers. I would not have children act like caterpillars and butterflies. Artistic expression is important, but I think children should use the computer to explain this. By doing things this way, children are learning technological skills.
The lesson plan as a whole is valuable
and very fun for the children, but I believe there isn't enough technological interaction for the children.
The article "Realizing Technology Potential through TPACK" has made an impact on me.
TPACK shows the role of digital technology as an educational tool.
It uses the example of digital video to show that technology can be used differently in different cirriculum to help get different goals accomplished
It also shows that teacher involvment in teaching the students using technology is just as important as using technology in the classroom
Goals for different classes within the same cirriculum can be completely opposite but can be accomplished with the same technologies.
