The uglies feel like the only thing they want to do is break free from their town. The song Break Away says why they want to.
Shay and Tally feel like are going to get caught any moment. So in order to stay strong they have to keep holding on. This song explains just they have to do to hold on.

When the Specials come into the Smoke they destroy everything. Wrecking Ball is just what they did.

The Middle- Jimmy Eats World
The uglies are in the middle of everything. They're not pretties yet and they have to many problems to deal with so young. The Middle helps explain that they just want to get of the middle.
Pretty/ Unpretty- Glee
This song relates that Tally wants Peris to be with her. She doesn't want him to be ugly though. This song just says that she wants to meet in the middle.
Break Away- Kelley Clarkson
Just The Way You Are- Bruno Mars
David tells Tally that she is beautiful, but she tells him she isn't because she is comparing herself to the pretties. But David still says you are perfect just the way you are. The song helps explain David's feelings.
Beautiful- Christine Aguilera
Tally thinks shes ugly because that is what she has grown up to think like. Beautiful explains how it's more important to be pretty in the inside instead of the outside.
Tally lives in a world that is not considered the norm. The "uglies" and the "pretties" are separated. Mad World explains just how messed up her world really is.
