Julie Burkel, PJ Braun, Jared Hagedorn Redefining perioperative nurse orientation Our change project idea came from the obvious lack of any consistent orientation process for surgical services staff members.

- High turnover rate
- Inadequate performance post orientation
- Disenfranchised nurse orientee
- Lack of structure Short Term Goals:

- Develop Orientation Pathway for surgical services
- Create a unit specific committee to help with
pathway/process build
- Lay foundation to produce more CNORs Long Term Goals:
- Restructuring the orientation process
- Increase staff retention
- Develop effective orientation
- Documentation for both preceptors and
new employees.
- Increase overall staff moral Orientation that we currently offer:
- Nurse educator assigns new nurse to a
- Preceptor is responsible for training

- Allows both staff & educator to evaluate - Assessing the needs of the orientee
- Creating a tailored orientation
- Focuses the needs of orientee
through evaluation - Week 1 consists of shadowing multiple preceptors
