By: Sadia Wind Vane A wind vane is an instrument that determines the direction from which the wind is blowing. Also Wind vanes show wind direction. The pointer or arrow on a wind vane points in the same direction as the wind is blowing. If the wind is blowing from west to east, the arrow points to the east. Guess What...
wind vane are also called weather vane! How does it look like... Did you know...
that wind could come in different
shape and size!! How do you make it... Watch this short clip about making wind vane. Anemometer An anemometer measures wind speed. The cups catch the wind, turning a dial attached to the instrument. The dial shows the wind speed. An anemometer has three or four tiny hollow metal cups which are set in a way to catch the wind and revolve around a rod. Bet you didn't know... that the first anemometer is invented by an Italian architect Leon Battista Alberti in 1450. How does it look like ... How do make it ... Watch this short clip about making an anemometer. Rain Gauge A rain gauge measures the amount of rain that has fallen over a specific time period. Fun Facts They don't work in hurricanes. No water will collect in the cylinder because of too strong of winds. Most rain gauges are inaccurate because of wind. Rain gauges don't work in certain temperature ranges because the precipitation will freeze. How does it look like ... How do you make it ... Watch this short clip about making rain gauge. Hygrometer A hygrometer measures the water vapor content of air or the humidity. Fun Facts The hygrometer was invented in the year 1670 by a man named Francesco Folli.
Leonardo da Vinci was said to have built the first crude hygrometer in the 1400's. How does it look like... How do you make it... Watch this short clip about making a hygrometer. Barometer A barometer measures air pressure. It tells you whether or not the pressure is rising or falling. A rising barometer means sunny and dry conditions, while a falling barometer means stormy and wet conditions. An Italian scientist named Torricelli built the first barometer in 1643. How does it look like... How do you make it ... Watch this short clip about making a barometer. Anenometer or Wind vane Barometer Hygrometer Rain gauge Easy Pyrimrid
