THE CRITICAL GLOBAL ISSUE:
A presentation by Luke, Haylee and Flynn C
Global Issues Through Our Lens: Waste
We are researching the world problem known as waste
WHAT IS WASTE?
Waste is one of the ten critical global issues. Municipal Solid Waste is leftover waste that is thrown out to a rubbish dump and in many parts of the world, it's a very big problem.
It is bad because rubbish isn't being recycled and it's getting into oceans, and plastic is one of the the most thrown away substances, and it doesn't biodegrade. Some of the waste is being burned and it releases gases into the air, that is how we get The Greenhouse Effect
The Ten Most Important Items To Recycle
2) PET Plastic Bottles
4) OCC (Old Corrugated Cardboard)
5) Steel Cans
6) HDPE Plastic Bottles (high density polyethlyene)
7) Glass Containers
8) Magazines and 9) Mixed Paper
According to water filtration companies, Americans throw away 35 billion plastic water bottles every year.
Annually approximately 500 billion plastic bags are used worldwide. And more than one million bags are used every minute.
A plastic bag has an average “working life” of 15 minutes.
Over the last ten years we have produced more plastic than during the whole of the last century.
Plastic accounts for around 10% of the total waste we generate
Interesting Waste Facts
THE GREAT PACIFIC GARBAGE PATCH
There are 5 garbage gyres in the ocean, (a gyre is a spinning spiral or vortex) North and South Pacif gyres, North and South Atlantic gyres, and the Indian Ocean gyre.
Definition of Waste
A material, substance, or by-product eliminated or discarded as no longer useful or required after a completion of a process.
.Recycling an aliminium can saves an amount of energy equivalent to half that can filled with gasoline
Thankyou for viewing our Prezi, we will now move onto our Waste poster
Recycling is important because you can extend the life of "no more useful" objects and stop them from polluting the environment and being put with the other "no more useful" objects in a forever growing landfill.
