1997- U.S. Events On December 18, 1997 I was born at Merida Hillcrest Hospital at 1:00 in the afternoon. I weighed 7 pounds and six ounces and came home two days before Christmas. 1997 On September 16, 1985 Steve Jobs quit apple because of the creative differences between him and co-ceo John Scully; but on the same date in 1997 Steve returned to apple as interim CEO of the company. 1997- Pop Culture 1997- Pop Culture On December 19, 1997 the movie Titanic was released to the United States public after its first release in Los Angeles five days earlier. On opening day a total of $28,638,131 was made ranking #1 for domestic grosses in 1997. It not only topped the charts as a hit movie in the U.S but in many other countries world wide as well. 1997 U.S. Event On July 4, 1997 The Mars Pathfinder Spacecraft landed on the surface 0f Mars. The Rover named Sojouner became the first micro- rover to operate on another planet. The Lander camera and instruments returned data of the atmosphere on Mars and surrounding terrain. Alexa's timeline of events 1997- U.S. Events On January 20, 1997 Bill Clinton was inaugurated for his second term as president. along with vice president Al Gore. Clinton beat republican candidate Bob Dole by about 8,000,000 popular votes, and won the electoral votes for 31 out of 50 states. On April 13, 1997 21 year old Tiger Woods became the youngest person ever to win the Masters Golf Tournament. He won by a record 12 strokes on the course in Augusta Georgia. This was the first golf tournament Tiger ever won. One of the events from 1997 that effected me was Steve Jobs coming back to work for Apple. I think that this effected me because if he hadn't returned then we might not have some of the technology made by Apple that we have today. So I probably wouldn't have the iPhone that I own either. In 1998 I started to grow my first baby tooth. I also got my ears pierced at the mall when I was about three months old. Effects 1998 1998- Pop Culture On September 4, 1998 Larry Page and Sergery Brin founded Google. It became the #1 search engine in America with millions of visitors each day. Despite all of the people who use google most of their revenue is generated through advertising programs. Pop Culture- 1998 On July 2, 1998 the second book in the Harry Potter series came out. Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets was written by J. K. Rowling and became extremely popular since it was the second book in a rising series. 1998- U.S. Event On October 28, 1998 John Glenn returned to space on board the space shuttle Discovery. He became the oldest person to be in space at 77 years old. The mission lasted nine days. 1998- U.S. Event On December 19, 1998 President Bill Clinton was impeached on charges of perjury and obstruction of justice. He lied about his involvement in an affair with Monica Lewinsky until his involvement was proven to be true. His trial lasted 9 days and he became the second president to ever be impeached. Effects The event in 1998 that i think effected me the most was when Google was created. I use Google about every day during school or at home to find information and facts on just about anything. Without it I think that school would probably be more difficult and i wouldn't be able to quickly find out things that I needed to know. 1999- Pop culture In 1999 Ty Warner Toys announces a small back bear on their website called "The End" to mark the end of the selling of beanie babies. Beanie babies were first introduced in 1993 and were very popular in sales up until this point. 1999- Pop Culture 1999 1999 was the year that I learned to walk. By the end of the year though i could walk well and run. I also learned how to say other words besides baby words. 1999- U.S. Events On April 20, 1999 two students named Dylan Klebold and Eric Harris murdered 12 students and one teacher at Columbine High school in Littletown Colorado. 21 more people were injured before both shooters killed themselves that day.. 1999- U.S. events In 1999 one of the most popular Chistmas presents for kids were Furby's. These furry toys could listen, go to sleep, be fed, and even communicate with other Furby's. It even had its own language that it spoke, which was almost equivalent to baby talk, but in time it could learn to speak in English as well. On January 2, 1999 a horrible snowstorm hit the Midwestern United States. 14 inches of snow came down in Milwaukee Wisconsin and 19 inches in Chicago Illinois. Temperatures reached -13 degrees Fahrenheit and 68 deaths were reported. Effects One of the events that I think effected my life was the Columbine Shooting. I think that this effected me because since the students shot their peers out of a retaliation of bullying we talked in school about how deeply bullying can really effect someone. 2000 In 2000 I started my first year of preschool at Kids Country. There I did lots of fun activities throughout the day, such as making Christmas ornaments that we still hang on our tree today. 2000- Pop Culture 2000- U.S. Events In 2000 George W. Bush beat democratic candidate Albert Gore Jr (Al Gore) in that years presidential election. Even though Bush won 30 out of the 50 states he still only won by a very small margin. He actually had .51% less popular votes than his opponent but won the electoral votes by 1%. I think that Facebok being created effected my life the most because it is something that I and many other people use a lot. Usually I'll just get on it if I'm bored or to see what my friends are up too. In 2005 I got my dog Pooh for my 8th birthday. She was a tan and white Sheltie, and was the perfect playmate for our other dog Buddy who was a black lab. I really wanted a dog that year and was so excited to get her. 2001 In the Summer of 2001 I broke my elbow on a trampoline. We were playing ring around the rosie and at the end someone accidentally pulled on my arm to hard when we we were supposed to fall down. It hurt pretty bad, but I got a pink cast on my arm and it eventually got better. 2001- Pop Culture In October 23. 2001 the first Ipod was released. It was 5GB and cost $399. Some people thought that it was too expensive, but it still became a hit. It could store over 1,000 songs, but could only work on Macs, and used Itunes to organize the music. On November 15, 2001 the first Xbox was released. MIcrosoft introduced it at a price of $299. It became extremely popular and set sale records by shipping 100,000 units per week to retailers in the first weeks after its launch. It then became the best selling video game console launch on record. 2001- U.S. Events On September 11, 2001 four american airplanes were hijacked by 19 terrorists. One plane crashed into the north twin tower in New York City and the other into the south tower. The next plane crashed into the pentagon and the other into a field in Shanksville Pennsylvani after passengers overthrew the terrorists. Thousands of people were left dead and injured. 2001- U.S. Events Effects Effects 2001- Pop Culture In 2001 a series of anthrax attacks spreads fear across the United States after a biologist named Bruce E. Ivins deliberately prepared and mailed anthrax spores that killed five people and scared a nation still afraid from the 9/11 attack. During the year 2000 reality TV became a huge sensation for people around the country. especially the show Survivor with about 51 million views during its first season finale. 2002 In the Summer of 2002 I learned how to ride a bike. I would get on my bike and try to ride it down my neighbors hill in their back yard until i could finally ride down it steadily without falling off. 2002- Pop Culture In 2002 Ice Age became a very popular movie when it aired On March 15 in theaters. It made $46,312,454 during its opening weekend in the United States; showing at a total of 3,316 movie screens. 2002- Pop Culture In 2002 Kelly Clarkson won the first ever American Idol Contest. She beat Justin Gaurini for the American Idol title and one million dollar record contract. She is currently the best selling artist from the show. 2002- U.S. Event I think that 9/11 effected me because every year on September 11 we honor those who died during this tragedy and I learn more and more about what really happened on that horrible day. On July 18, 2002 Pennsylvania miners are rescued after spending 77 hours in a flooded mine shaft. The nine miners were brought to safety after spending over 3 days 240 feet underground 2002- U.S. Event In 2002, in Hayman Colorado a forest fire destroys 137,760 acres land. Marking one of the worst in the states history 2,500 firefighters came to put the fire out, resulting in five deaths among these people. The total fire fighting cost was $39 million. Effects I think that the first season of American Idol starting has effected me because that used to be one of my favorite shows to watch, and after the show was over I would usually listen to a lot of the songs that the winning artists had later produced. 2003 In 2003 I started Kindergarten at Greenwood Elementary School. Although I don't remember much about that year I do remember that my teachers name was Mrs.Sarver and she was really nice. 2003- Pop Culture In 2003 Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King won 11 Oscars, winning every category it was in. For this reason many people think that it was the greatest movie made of all time. 2003- Pop Culture In 2003 13 year old girl named Bethany Hamilton was attacked by a shark while surfing in the ocean. The shark took her left arm off, but that didn't stop her from continuing to surf and follow her dreams despite all the challenges she faced. 2003- U.S. Event In 2003 Space Shuttle Columbia disintegrates upon re-entry to the Earth's atmosphere killing all 7 astronauts and resulting in a 29 month suspension of the space shuttle program. 2003- U.S. Event In 2003 sever weather outbreak showed more tornadoes than any other week in U.S. history. 393 tornadoes were reported in 19 states. This caused 41 deaths, 642 injuries, and $829 million in damage. Effects The event that effected me was when Bethany Hamilton was attacked by a shark because a few years ago a movie was made about what happened to her, and I really liked it a lot and felt it taught me a lot of life lessons. 2004 In 2004 i traveled out of the United States for the first time when we went on vacation to Punticana in the Dominican Republic. It was a really fun vacation because I got to go with my family and one of my best friends, and there was a lot of fun stuff to do there. 2004- Pop Culture In 2003 Mark Zuckeburg created the social networking website known as Facebook. Facebook is one of the top social websites in America with over 800 million users visiting each day. This site allows people upload photos, connect with old and new friends and much more. Many companies also use it to make their own Facebook page and advertise their products. 2004- U.S. Event Effects 2005 2005- Pop Culture 2005 was a good year for country singers and artists because many of them were popular during this time. Such as Rascal Flats, Kenny Chesney, Keith Urban, Carrie Underwood, Sugar Land, Toby Keith, and Faith Hill. 2005- U.S. Event In 2005 Steve Fossett broke the world record by completing the first non-stop, non-fueled, solo flight around the world. He flew for about 67 hours and traveled a total of 23,000 miles. Effect I think that all of the country artists being popular in this year effected me because I like country music now and some of the singers mentioned earlier, so if they weren't popular then and there careers hadn't taken off, then I wouldn't be able to listen to thier songs now. 2006 2006- Pop Culture In 2006 Itunes billionth song was downloaded since it was first created in 2003 . The song was Speed of Sound by Coldplay, which was a popular band during that time. 2006- U.S. Event The seriel shooter killers Dale S. Hausner and Samuel John Dieteman are caught and charged for the drive by murders of six people in Phoenix Arizona. These two men also inured more than two dozen people and animals and will remain on death row. Effect I think that Itunes having its billionth song downloaded effectd me because i use Itunes a lot and since it was so popular it encouraged the company to keep it around longer and to keep adding more songs into the future. But if it wasn't as popular before than it might not be around anymore. On August 3, 2004 the Statue of Liberty was open to the public again since 9/11. The national landmark had closed shortly after that date for security reasons and so that some minor safety improvements could be made. 2007 Towards the end of 2006 I got my first pair of glasses. I wasn't really to excited to get them at first, but after I was happy that I could see better. After a while though i wouldn't have to wear glasses very often because I got contacts a few years later. 2007- Pop Culture Following the original release of the Wii gaming system in 2006 the Nintendo Wii comes out with new motion sensitive controllers in 2007, which allow for better game play and detetecion of the users motion. It became very high in demand that year 2007- U.S. Event On April 16, 2007 a South Korean student at Virgina Tech Campus named Seung-Hui Cho went on a shooting spree and killed 32 people and wounded 47 more before killing himself. More lives could have possibly been saved however if the school did not wait over two hours to send out a notification about the shooting. This is the deadliest shooting in american history. Effect I think that the shooting at Virginia Tech effected me because it was just another example of the crazy things that can happen in this world and that we need to do everything we can to try to prevent these kinds of things from happening again. The new Wii also effected me because we have one of them at my house and I think that it is fun to play. 2008 In 2008 I got my dog Bentley for my 11th birthday. He is a black and white multipoo which is a mix between a maltice and poodle. I was really happy to get him because he was so small and cute. 2008- Pop Culture After the Blu- Ray discs and players had been around for about two years they filled about 70% of the high definition market and was expected to win over the classic DVD format. 2008- U.S. Event In 2008 the Governor of Illinois Rod Blagojevich was impeached and arrested for charges of federal corruption including conspiracy to commit mail and wire fraud and solicitation of bribery. Effect One of the events that effected me was the blu-ray discs and players becoming popular because a couple years ago we had to replace our old dvd player with one that would play both blu-rays and dvd's so that we could watch new and old movies. In 2007 I was on a softball team for the first time with one of my really good teams. Another thing that happened was that my great grandma who lived in Georgia passed away at 103 years old. 2009 In 2009 my sister moved to California to go to a fashion design school. I was really sad to see her go but i got to visit her there one summer and it was a lot of fun. I also have gotten to see her every Christmas since she moved too. 2009- Pop Culture On June 25, 2009 Pop Icon Michael Jackson died at 50 years old from a drug overdose. He left begind his childrena dn other family and friends as well. Since his death his doctor Conrad Murry has been convicted of involuntary manslaughter and some never before sold albums were released. 2009- U.S. Event On January 20, 2009 Barack Obama was inaugurated as the 44th president of the United States. He became the first African American to ever serve as president. He beat republican candidate John McCain by receiving 53% of the popular vote and 365 electoral votes to Mccain's 173. Effect 2010 In 2010 both of my grandparents on my dads side passed away. I was really sad when this happened because I loved them very much and enjoyed spending time with them. It was also very hard because they both passed in the same year. I will always miss them. 2010 Pop Culture In 2010 Justin Beiber who was discovered through a youtube video in 2008 continued to dominate the charts this year with songs such as never say never, u smile, stuck in the moment, pray, never let go, and kiss and tell. 2010 U.S. Event Effect Justin Beibers advancement in the music world effected me because I like to listen to his music and if he hadn't done well then, than he would not have come out with a lot of his new songs that I listen to today. On January 3, 2010 the U.S. introduces stricter screenings for people traveling to the U.S. from 14 different countries including Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, and Nigeria. This occurd after a Nigerian man tried to bomb an american plane going to Detroit Michigan on December 25, 2009. Some of the stricter security aspects made were full body pat downs and extra scrutiny on carry on luggage. 2011 In 2011 I played lacrosse for the first time on a team. My friend was the one who first got me into the sport because she wanted me to play it with her. I wasn't sure if I would like it, but once we started I realized that it was really fun. 2011- Pop Culture On August 20, 2011 reality star Kim Kardashion married professional basketball player Kris Humphries. From Kim's three designer dresses to her $2 million dollar engagement ring, this was one of the most extravagant televised weddings of the year. Although the marriage didn't last long considering the couple divorced that same year after just 72 days of marriage. 2011- Pop Culture 2011- U.S. Event On May 2, 2011 Osama Bin Laden, the most wanted man in America was proclaimed dead. Although details about his death are still unfolding, according to a book written by a Navy Seal who witnessed the event said that Bin Laden was killed by a bullet to the brain before the seals even entered the room. Once in the room they fired their lasers for several rounds at the nearly dead man until he became motionless. An even more upscale wedding of the year was the Royal Wedding of Prince William and Kate Middleton who married on April 29, 2011. As the couple kissed "I Do" on the balcony of the Buckingham Palace more than half a million people were cheering from the streets as they watched. 23 million American viewers also watched the Royal Wedding as it was televised for hours across the country. 2011- U.S. Event On January 8, 2011 Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords was shot outside of a grocery store in Arizona. After the bullet went straight through her brain, she was left in critical condition, but survived. The shooting killed six people and wounded 13. A nine year old girl and federal judge were among the six killed in the attack. Effects Both of the weddings mentioned effected me because since they occurred I have seen many stories about both of the couples on TV in magazines, on the internet, and sometimes radio. I watched parts of both weddigs on TV and have heard good and bad things about each wedding especially Kims considering that the marriage was very short. 2012 At the end of August 2012 I started my first day of high school. I was kind of nervous at first because it was a new school and everything, but after the first week or so I got used to the building and all of my classes. One thing that I liked about the high school was that you got to pick your elective classes, which was not something we could do at the middle school. Pop Culture- 2012 On March 23, 2012 the movie The Hunger Games was released in theaters. $152,535,747 was made on opening weekend. The movie was based off of the first book in the best selling series The Hunger Games written by Suzanne Collins, which people went crazy over. So obliviously when the movie came out many people went to see it, especially the midnight showing of it on opening night. Pop Culture- 2012 Another popular movie of 2012 was Breaking Dawn part 2 which was the last movie of the Twilight series. It aired in theaters on November 16, 2012 and received $141,067,634 opening weekend. This movie was also based off of the last book in the series Breaking dawn written by Stephenie Meyer. People became hooked when the first movie of the series came out and each movie after the other became more and more popular. 2012- U.S. Event On December 14, 2012 a gunman went into Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newton Connecticut and opened fire inside the school. He killed 20 innocent young children, and six heroic teachers who tried to protect their students. The 20 year old man then killed himself afterward. I think that the election of George Bush effected me indirectly because he probably put policies into place that my parents had to follow. Which would then effect me because my parents actions often reflect on me as well. Michael Jackson's death effected me indirectly because after it happened i heard stories about him on the news, and saw things on TV about his life, and heard many of his songs on the radio a lot. But I never knew actually met or knew him. 2012- U.S. Event On November 6, 2012 Barack Obama was re-elected for a second term as President of The United States. He beat republican Candidate Mitt Romney in a tight race throughout the election. Obama recieved 332 electoral votes while Romney recieved 206 electoral votes. Obama also won the popular vote by getting 62,611,250 votes and Romney getting 59,134,475 votes. 2012- Pop Culture In 2012 a new boy band call One Direction became a music
sensation across the United States. The band contains a group of 5 guys who joined together as a band on the show The X factor. After the show they continued on with their music career by doing tours throughout the world and the United States. Effects I think that the American History events have effected me in a couple different ways. Some of them included school shootings. These effected me because afterward schools had to increase the amount of security for their buildings. Also when I travel the security at airports as increased as a result of 9/11. The presidential elections have effected me indirectly because although I am not an adult and some of the policies made by the presidents do not have to do with me, they do have to do with my parents. And what my parents do effects me since we live in the same house and they take care of me.
