Rwandan Genocide vs. Bosnian Genocide
Bosnian Genocide
The Bosnian Genocide took place in Europe in the former Republic of Yugoslavia now known as Bosnia. The genocide only lasted from 1992 to 1995.
WHERE IN THE WORLD?
Rwandan Genocide
The Rwandan Genocide took place in Africa in the country Rwanda. The genocide was only 100 days.
WHERE IN THE WORLD?
Bosnian Genocide
WHO IS IN CHARGE?
The Yugoslav leader Josip Broz Tito, who died a decade before the genocide, was head of the government before the genocide. After his death, no one was put in his place, and the country started to split because of territorial conflicts.
Rwandan Genocide
WHO IS IN CHARGE?
President Juvenal Habyarimana was head of the Rwandan government. Cyprien Ntaryamira was the president of Burundi at the time. Both men were aboard the plane when it was shot out of the sky.
Compare/Contrast?
After the death of each country's leader, both nations lost all control of its citizens. Bosnia started to split because of land conflicts, and innocent Rwandan people started to feel unsafe because of militia groups.
The mass murder in Rwanda started immediately after the death of their leader. In Bosnia, the killing didn't start until 10 years later.

The Interhamwe and various Hutu militia groups were behind the mass murder of the Tutsis.
Compare/Contrast?
Bosnian Genocide
WHO WAS INVOLVED?
The Bosnians and all other Non-Serb ethnic groups were tortured and/or killed. An estimated 100,000 people were killed at the concentration camp or during a raid or massacre of a public place.
Rwandan Genocide
WHO IS INVOLVED?
The Tutsi were killed by the Hutu militia groups because they were always seen as being part of a rebel group planning to take over the government. At least 800,000 Tutsi were killed in the 100 days of slaughter.
Concentration camps were used during the Bosnian Genocide to torture the non Serbs. Tutsi were killed immediately with machetes during the Rwandan Genocide.
Large amounts of people were killed during the day and at night in both genocides.
