Early Life, Family, and General Info
Full Name: Johann Chrysostom Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart
Born to Leopold and Anna Maria Pertl January 27, 1756 in Salzburrg, Austria
He and his sister, Maria Anna were the only 2 out of 7 children to sruvive
Leopold's family was very wealthy while Anna's was middle class1
Mozart was very musically gifted from a young age composing at age 6
Spent much of his childhood traveling with his family
Died at the young age of 35 in December of 179
Musical Education
Developed a strong understanding of musical concepts all by himself without any formal training
After recognizing his natural musical aptitude his father began to tutor him
His father was a kind, but strict teacher who put a strong emphasis on work ethic and perfection
Mozart quickly excelled beyond anything his father could teach him
Began composing his own pieces and mastered both the clarinet and violin by age 5
Musical Carrer
Mozart's professional carrer began around age 7
Toured Europe for years performing as a child prodigy
Met his first major musical influence Johann Christian Bach in London
In Rome he heard a performance of Gregorio Allegri's
and was able to write out the entire score from memory
Composed his 1st great mass at age 12 (Misa Brevis in G)
Wrote his first opera at age 14 (Mitridate Re di Ponto)
In 1773 Mozart was appointed assistant concertmaster with a small salary
During this job he developed a passion for violin concertos
Moved to Viena to teach students such as Ludwig van Beethoven
Musical Carrer Cont.
Became infatuated with the works of Johannes Sebastion Bach and George Frederic Handel
Their influence in Mozart's work is evident in pieces like "The Magic Flute"
Mozart was very good friends with fellow composer Haydn
Wrote six quartets with him
Composed over 626 over his 35 year lifetime
Known for the wide emotional range he used when composing and playing
Mozart was also well known for being very knowledgeable about the different styles of music of the different regions he traveled to and being able to quickly adapt to them

It was characterized by lots of tranistion within both politics and music
The Holy Roman Empire had just fallen and cities like Vienna and Prague were being ruled by wealthy aristocrats who commisioned artists and musicians to entertain them frequently
