Periodontics: the branch of dental medicine concerned with the prevention and treatment of diseases that are in the gums and supporting structures of the teeth (Perio = around & odont = tooth)
Orthodontics: the branch of dentistry involved in restoring and preventing dental and facial irregularities AKA malocclusion (another word for bad bites such as an “overbite” and “underbite”)
Oral Surgery: the branch of dentistry that involves but is not limited to TOOTH EXTRACTIONS and mainly focuses on REMOVING INFECTIONS and preventing them from spreading.
General Dentistry: a compilation of all specialties in dentistry AKA your average family dentist.
One way diseases in the gum occur: NOT BRUSHING YOUR TEETH PROPERLY. This causes a buildup of plaque under the gums, which could lead to an infection of the tooth that can cause loss in tooth and bone structure as well as bleeding in the gums.
Dental medicine is slowly expanding and exploring into new territory.
Example of periodontitis (bone loss because of advanced gum disease)
These are some of the instruments orthodontists use:
General dentists use a pretty wide variety of instruments
Instruments used in

THANK YOU FOR YOUR TIME!!
Now that you've all been taught some specialities of dental medicine, lets experience one boy's journey dealing with these four speciliaties.
Hopefully in the future, society will come to appreciate dental medicine as an important aspect of health care.
They also can use amalgam and composite material for restorations
Special Thank you:
