Chandigarh, the dream city of India's first Prime Minister, Sh. Jawahar Lal Nehru, was planned by the famous French architect Le Corbusier. Picturesquely located at the foothills of Shivaliks, it is known as one of the best experiments in urban planning and modern architecture in the twentieth century in India. The basic geographical and demographic profile of Chandigarh is as under:

Chandigarh has a well planned system of water supply distribution. Water Supply of Chandigarh is based on two sources i.e. Surface water from Bhakra Main Canal and underground deep bore Tubewells. The present availability of water in Chandigarh in 64 mgd. WATER SUPPLY The city has a well planned under ground network of pipes for disposal of sewerage. The system has been designed according to natural slope of the city for sewage to flow under gravity. Sewage Treatment plant has been constructed for treatment of sewage upto territory level before disposal in open nallah. SEWERAGE DISPOSAL A well laid out underground Strom Water Drainage System exists in the city. The system has been designed keeping in view the slope of the city. The system is augmented from time to time by providing more lines and R/ Gullies.
