What is the Digestive system?
The system of organs responsible for
getting food into and out of the body
and for making use of food to keep
the body healthy.
What is Celiac Disease
Celiac disease is an immune reaction to eating gluten. If you have celiac disease, eating gluten triggers an immune response in your small intestine.
The Digestive System
Inflammatory bowel disease
This disease is a group of disorders in which the intestines become inflamed.
The likeliest cause is an immune reaction the body has against its own intestinal tissue.
•Severe or chronic abdominal pain
•Diarrhea, often bloody
•Sudden weight loss
•Lack of appetite
Eating a gluten free diet.
This means avoiding foods with wheat, barley and
rye. Also avoiding beer unless it is gluten free, if you
have gluten free diet you will also need to eat a lot of
rice, corn, millet and buckwheat.
If you have Ulcerative Colitis it is more likely for you to need surgery.
Mesalamine is delivered as either a rectal enema, suppository or a pill this works to open up the small intestine.
A chronic inflammatory disease primarily of the bowel. Typical symptoms are
abdominal pain, weight loss, diarrhea. There may also be rectal bleeding that can lead to
anemia. Special X-rays and tests are needed to differentiate Crohn’s from other diseases with
•Diarrhea, loose stools, Fever and fatigue.
•Abdominal pain and cramping
•Nausea and vomiting
•Blood in your stool.
•Mouth sores. You may have ulcers in your mouth similar to canker sores.
•Reduced appetite and weight loss.
•Immune system suppressors
•Change in diet
A hernia is the protrusion of an organ or piece of
tissue from its normally contained space. In the
abdomen, a hernia usually involves a piece of
bowel, or omentum that acts as a piece of fat that
hangs down from the large intestine (colon) and
invades a weak area of the abdominal wall.
•Swelling beneath the skin of the abdomen or the groin
•Tenderness/ discomfort in the abdomen
•Heavy feeling in abdomen
•Constipation or bloody stool
•The inguinal hernia surgery may be performed by laparoscope
or by an open procedure called a herniorrhaphy
•The abdominal wall is made up of layers of different muscles and tissues.
Weak spots may develop in these layers to allow contents the abdominal cavity to protrude.
•There are different types of hernias like the inguinal hernia. This one occurs in the groin, the hiatal hernia is in the diaphragm. The last type of hernia is the congenital Hernia, this one may be present at birth or they may develop at any time after.
Gastro esophageal reflux disease
This is the weakness of the valve between the esophagus and
stomach it may allow stomach acid to regurgitate into the
esophagus and irritate and inflame the lining. This results in
chest pain which can mimic that of angina (pain of cardiac
•Heartburn or burning pain in chest
•Change in eating habits
Kinds of Cancer's
Cancer is not just one disease, but a large group of
almost 100 diseases.
Its two main characteristics are uncontrolled growth of the cells in the human body and the ability of these cells to migrate from the original site and spread to distant sites.
There are many cancers that affect the digestive
system like Stomach cancer , Esophagus cancer,
Small intestine cancer.
•Ulcerative Colitis is limited to the colon or large intestine.
•Crohn's Disease can involve any part of the gastrointestinal tract.
