What caused acid rain to happen in Germany?
Burning coal and other fuels sent chemicals into the air which caused the acid rain. It was a big problem in Germany.

What Is Acid Rain?
Acid Rain is rain that is polluted by gases released into the air by the burning of fossil fuels, like coal or oil. Acid rain was considered a major problem in the 1980s and while steps to reduce sulfur emissions have been successful we are still feeling the effects today.

Acid rain effects stonework building. Centuries old buildings and sculptures have been ruined due to the acidic content in acid rain. Culture has been tarnished by new age-problems.
What is the last effect of acid rain?
The last effect is it eats away at brick and stonework buildings. Experts say the same buildings are losing up to 4 percent of their weight each year from acid rain damage!

There are many effects of acid rain in Germany. When acids from rain and snow enter rivers and lakes, it can kill fish and their eggs. Trees are easily killed/damaged by acid rain. When acid rain falls on tress, it takes out valuable nutrients found in the soil.
