Baca unhesitatingly covered the grenade with his steel helmet from hitting his bestfriend.
Patriotism
John displayed patriotism by " conspicuous gallantry and intrepidity in action at the risk of his life beyond the call of duty"
Valor
John heard the heavy firing and felt that his riffle team needed assistance so he lead his team through the hail of enemy fire to a position within patrol's defense.
Honor
We honor John Baca for saving 8 men from death or serious injuries.
He represented honor by putting his men first before him and protecting his men before himself.

He represented sacrifice by jumping in front of a grenade that was between two of his men.

Ray represented patriotism by directing his men and providing the outstanding courage and leadership they vitally needed.
