Cows What about them? Dairy Did you know the dairy industry is one of the top producers in America? Between 1940 and 2007, the average amount of milk produced per cow rose from 2 to 10 tons per year. What makes this all possible? Holstein -Most used breed in the United States for milk production - Large in size - They can live up to 4 to 10 years but are only expected to produce milk for 4 of those. Jersey -Produces more pounds of milk per body weight than any other dairy breed. -Medium sized -They are also the most heat tolerant of dairy cows Brown Swiss - One of the oldest dairy breeds - Large sized Dairy cows - High milk quality - 2nd most used breed
