Dance
Ballet
Ballet was originated from Italian Renaissance in the 15th century. It is a very technical form of dance. A main ballet performance is the Nut Cracker, which was choreographed by Marius Petipa. Ballet is performed with slow, classical music.
Ballet moves
Some Ballet moves are:
Arabesque-
where you stand on one leg with the other leg raised behind you
Grande Jeté-
a jump from one foot to the other where one leg is brushed into the air
Plié-
bending of the knee or knees
Turn-out-
When you turn your feet and legs out
Pirouette-
a complete turn
Hip-Hop
Hip hop started in the 1970s. There are different types, like crumping, and break dancing. For this you usually wear sneakers.
Hip-Hop moves
Some hip hop moves are:
Body rolls-
where you roll your body
Pony-
where you gallop like a pony
Kip-ups-
where roll back on your back and then flip back up
Baby freeze-
you hold yourself up low to the ground while balancing yourself on your hands and head with your feet in the air
Tap
Tap dancing started in the mid-1800s. It is a type of dance style where you tap your feet on the ground with metal plates on the bottom of your shoes and use that noise to dance. The metal is on the heel and toe of the shoe.
Some Tap moves are:
Heel tap-
strike your heel on the floor
Heel (drop)-
standing on the balls of one or both, "drop" the heel on the floor
Ball (drop)-
standing on the heels of one or both, "drop" the ball on the floor
Toe stand-
stand on one or both tips of the feet
Tap moves
Musical theater started in the 19th century. It is a type of dance which involves acting while dancing. Or acting out the words in a song. For this you usually wear jazz shoes.
Musical Theater
Some Musical Theater moves are:
Kick ball change-
Kick with one leg followed by two quick changes from one ball of the foot to the other
Pivot turn-
One foot steps in front and then the body turns to face the opposite direction
Heel clicks-
clicks your hells together in the air
Jazz square-
a step forward followed by a step across and then two steps back. All steps form a box
Musical Theater Moves
Pointe is a very classical type of ballet. It's when you stand on your toes with shoes with wood inside them, which are called pointe shoes. You have to put all your body weight on your toes. Pointe is mainly performed by women but men can also do it. You have to wear toe pads in the shoes to cushion to your feet.

Some pointe moves are:
Arabesque-

Lyrical is a combination of jazz, ballet, and contemporary. For lyrical you usually wear foot undies. You need to have a ballet background for lyrical. Lyrical sometimes involves flips.

Tilt-
lifting your leg in front of your face
Leap-
where you brush both leg into the air
Straddle jump-
a sideways leap
Pirouette-
a complete turn
Lyrical moves
A duet is a dance between 2 people. For example this is jazz duet.
A trio is a dance with only 3 people. For example this is a jazz trio.
Hip Hop Majorette is a combination of hip hop and cheer leading. It isn't a very common form of dance yet, but is still popular.
Some hip-hop majorette moves are:
Marching
Struts
Splits-
both legs are stretched out 1 in front of you and 1 in back
Kicks

Cartwheel

Toe Touch-
jump up and touch your toes
Back bend-
pushing off your hands and feet to form a bridge
Deathdrop-
dropping to the ground on your back with one leg behind you

Class- you wear a leotard Competition- you wear a dress

Hip-Hop:
Class and competition are just a shirt and shorts, but competitions are more edgy

Tap:
Class and competition are just a shirt and shorts, but competitions are more formal, like a skirt

A solo is a dance with only one person. For example this is a contemporary solo.
