Cultural Values Modesty is very important,they are very humble and distrust those who brag. Language English is the primary language Australia in a glance Cultural Norms They use colorful language that would be unusual in other countries Customs They are not usually formal, preferring relaxed greetings Skills They are very sports-oriented:
Thoroughbred racing
They excel internationally in: golf, tennis, hockey, swimming, soccer, and motorcycle racing
Also very good at water sports Australia's Culture The 6th largest country-slightly smaller than the contiguous U.S. 143 times smaller population than the U.S. Australia contains many natural resources
largest coal exporter-provide 26% of the world's coal They have a Parliamentary Democracy and recognize the English monarch There are many Aboriginal dialects, but these are rapidly decreasing. A recent influx of immigrants is rapidly changing Australia to a multi-cultural country Slang is often used and can be hard to understand They value a strong sense of humor, often self-depreciating. Strong relationships with everyone is common, and they try to be on good terms with people. Business is very direct, with no emotions or hype Punctuality is expected Afternoon tea is at 4 p.m. Tea at 6-8 p.m. is considered an evening meal and is very light Party manners are very similar to ours- at a "barbie", arrive on time, BYOB, and offer help "Barbies" are the most popular get-togethers, and everyone has a grill Christmas and New Years are the most celebrated holidays Excellent recreation in the country-vacation weather and they tend to stay in the country Australians are becoming known for their Creative Digital Media industry Material Culture Australians put a high value on cultural activities-and both the government and household are increasing spending on these.
