Your Benefits
As a new Employee you must choose to enroll or waive the following plans within 60 days:
health, and
within 31 days:
life insurance, and
flexible spending.
What are my options?
Fauquier County offer several different plans. You should carefully consider your options when choosing a plan that is right for you. To further research, review the Benefits Guide or visit www.fauquiercounty.gov under the Human Resources page. For now we'll summarize a few options.
Who is eligible to be on my plans?
For most plans like Health and Dental you have 4 different enrollment options:
Employee Only
Employee and Spouse
Employee and Child
Family (self, spouse, and children)

Prior to enrollment make sure individuals you add to your plan are eligible.
Dependent Children up to the age of 26

For each individual you would like to add to your plan you must submit supporting documentation to the HR Department within 31 days of enrollment.

How do I Enroll?

When can I start using my new benefits?
Your coverage will go into effect on the first day of the month following two health insurance deductions.
What if I miss it?
If you do not enroll in benefits within 60 days of your hire date, the next opportunity to obtain benefits will be during the annual open enrollment period. Insurance open enrollment is held in the spring of each year.

HealthKeepers 20 (HMO Open Access)
Lumenos (HSA)

All plans are bundled with a prescription drug program. Both KeyCare and HealthKeepers participate with OptumRx.

Employee Life
Administered by Minnesota Life you have two options:

Dependent Life
Administered by Minnesota Life this plan is fully paid by the employee. There are 4 levels of coverage to choose from: Level 1, 2, 3 and 4.

Employee must enroll themselves to cover their dependents.

Children may remain on dependent life coverage up to their 21st birthday, or age 25 if a full-time student.

Long and Short Term Disability
Administered by American Fidelity or AFLAC based on your selection.

The premium for this plan will depend upon the policy employees wish to elect.

How much will this cost?
Flexible Spending Accounts (FSAs)
FSAs allow you to pay for eligible expenses with pre-tax dollars. By enrolling you will have more money to spend elsewhere. There are two types of FSAs
Health Care - for eligible out-of-pocket medical, dental and vision expenses
Dependent Care - can be used to pay for day care, elder care, and more...

Benefits for Life
A voluntary benefit program available to employees. Allows you to enroll in various insurances via payroll deduction.

Some examples of plans available to new hires are:

The following plans are voluntary and employees must contact the vendors directly. All contact information can be found in your Benefit Guide.

A free resource for all Employees who would like information.

Two PPO plans offered:
High Option
Standard Option
Vision coverage is bundled with your medical plan choice.

Vision coverage is provided through Blue View Vision Network.
Basic Life Insurance is:
Twice your annual salary,
Automatically enrolled as part of your VRS coverage, and
Fauquier County covers premiums.

Optional Life Insurance
Additional coverage offered that employees must enroll and pay the premiums.
Supplemental Retirement Plans
Employees are automatically enrolled in a 457(b).
$25.00 per paycheck

Sick Leave
Full-time employees will accrue one (1) day of sick leave per month.

For example: 12-month employees accrue 12 days/year.

"County Policies" on Fauquier County website you will find all you need to know about the different types of leave.
Full-time County employees will receive 2 floating holidays to use at their discretion. These will be pro-rated for part-time employees. They are "use or lose".
VRS Hybrid members are offered Short Term and Long Term Disability as a component of their VRS Plan.

Employees will accrue one (1) day of annual leave per month.

Any leave over the maximum allowed will be converted to sick leave.
Virginia Retirement System
Fauquier County provides retirement benefits to all full time permanent employees. All employees that qualify are automatically enrolled. To further research, review the Benefits Guide or visit www.varetire.org. For now, we will summarize the plans.
Plan 1
Employees that gained VRS membership prior to July 1, 2012
Employees contribute 5% of their salary each payroll
Employees should log into their VRS account to estimate their monthly benefit
Plan 1 Retirement Age
Plan 2
Plan 2 Retirement Age
Hybrid Plan
Employees that gained VRS membership after January 1, 2014
Employees contribute 5% of their salary each payroll
4% to VRS
1% to ICMA
Employees should log into their VRS account to estimate their monthly benefit

Hybrid Retirement Age
Social security age with 5 years of service or the rule of 90 (age plus years of service equal 90)

Employees have the option to contribute additional funds into their ICMA retirement account via VRS.

Fauquier County provides a match to additional funds that employees contributes.

Age 65 with 5 years of service or age 50 with 30 years of service
Employees that gained VRS membership after July 1, 2012
