  1. chick check check.
  2. Hello, My name is Evan a C.
  3. Welcome to this week's Deeper truths.
  4. Teaching a Siri's that is designed for people who have
  5. said yes to Jesus Christ to have put him on
  6. through baptism and whose names are written in The Lamb's
  7. Book of Life, You're making heaven your home.
  8. So these Siri's is designed to help us find out
  9. exactly how God has intended for us to live this
  10. life really well.
  11. And he's given us his instruction manual, which is the
  12. Holy Scriptures, in order to be able to know exactly
  13. how we can do that.
  14. So this Siri's we're gonna take the time to talk
  15. about life, the universe and everything.
  16. Let's dive right in.
  17. I am so excited about the direction that we're gonna
  18. go for the next couple of weeks.
  19. As we dive into this particular area of deeper truths
  20. in Jesus Christ, let's jump right into the Scriptures.
  21. The message today is Philip and the Ethiopian.
  22. The subtitle on it is where to find help when
  23. you need it, so let's go ahead and turn to
  24. God's were we're gonna read today in the Book of
  25. Acts, Chapter eight, we're gonna read versus 26 through 40
  26. lots of stops along the way.
  27. I'm sure that you're gonna find yourself in this story
  28. somewhere. Now, an angel of the Lord said to Philip,
  29. go south to the road, the desert road that goes
  30. down from Jerusalem to Gaza.
  31. So he started out and on his way he met
  32. an Ethiopian unit, an important official in charge of all
  33. the treasury of the candidate, which means Queen of the
  34. Ethiopians. Okay, let's take a stop.
  35. You're really quick.
  36. Let's see what we're looking at.
  37. So Philip is in Jerusalem and he hears the voice
  38. of God speak to him.
  39. An angel, it says told him, Go on this road.
  40. First thing I have to ask myself as a believer
  41. in Jesus Christ.
  42. Does God still talked to his people?
  43. If God talked to me, sent the spirit that talk
  44. to me, would I be in tune to hear that
  45. voice? And if I Let's say, the voice said, I
  46. felt on the inside of me.
  47. You know that function from the Holy Spirit go into
  48. downtown Portland.
  49. There's somebody I'm going to bring you to number one.
  50. Would I have heard number two.
  51. If I did hear what I have the boldness to
  52. follow through, I had to ask myself that question.
  53. And then let's look at the Ethiopian here.
  54. It says This might not about this central character in
  55. this story, the Ethiopian unit.
  56. He's an important official in charge of all the treasury
  57. of the candidate, which means the queen of the Ethiopians.
  58. So this guy is the treasurer for the queen of
  59. Ethiopia. The Ethiopia spoken of here in the Scripture is
  60. actually known as Sudan today, So it's over in Africa.
  61. We know that this guy is educated because you can't
  62. be the treasurer of a country unless you know mathematics
  63. and the different things that go along with understanding mathematics.
  64. He was highly educated.
  65. We know that he is an important person.
  66. He's the queen's treasure, which means that he has an
  67. entourage of people.
  68. Very likely he's got a lot of cash.
  69. He's dressed very nicely.
  70. He's highly educated now.
  71. UNIX units are people men who have been castrated, sometimes
  72. even emasculated, and sometimes that that was done by choice.
  73. But more often than not, that person was actually captured.
  74. A different country came into your country.
  75. They overtook it.
  76. And then they carried away a bunch of people and
  77. brought them as exiles to their homeland.
  78. So we don't know if this guy was eat the
  79. opening with actor after an exile.
  80. We don't really know if he was a unit, by
  81. choice or by force, but anyway, we do know that
  82. he was one.
  83. And so he lives in Ethiopia now.
  84. And, uh So let's move on.
  85. In the scripture, the man had gone to Jerusalem to
  86. worship, stopped the ponies.
  87. Oh, my goodness.
  88. The man had gone to Jerusalem to worship known Ethiopia.
  89. There were a lot of different religions at the time,
  90. and this is important background information.
  91. Uh, he was There were a lot of different religions
  92. there at the time, but he had come to Jerusalem
  93. to worship Jerusalem was the center of the known world
  94. for Jewish worship.
  95. So I believe that we can say based on circumstantial
  96. evidence, which is all we have that the unique waas
  97. Jewish and he had been trained in the Jewish customs
  98. and ways because he had traveled 1500 miles by horse.
  99. That could be a two month journey.
  100. It says here.
  101. The man had gone to Jerusalem to worship, so he
  102. had traveled all that distance so that he could worship
  103. in Jerusalem.
  104. He was most likely a Jew.
  105. And so knowing that and knowing that he's an adult
  106. because he's a treasure of a country, he's traveling.
  107. He's got his on trust.
  108. He's traveled to Jerusalem and he's on his way back
  109. home. We know that this guy has probably been doing
  110. this for all of his life.
  111. He was probably trained in the Hebrew scriptures.
  112. Uh, and so, uh, he was.
  113. So we know that this Ethiopian was trained in the
  114. Scriptures because we're gonna find out here in a minute,
  115. um, as we read it says on his way home
  116. was sitting in his chariot so we can see that
  117. this Ethiopian was probably trained in the Jewish ways and
  118. customs because he had gone to the center of Jerusalem
  119. to worship.
  120. And then we see picking up in 28 on his
  121. way home was sitting in his chariot reading The Book
  122. of Isaiah the Prophet.
  123. The spirit told Philip, go to that chariot and stay
  124. near So now the Jewish people had from the in
  125. Early World had trained their Children in the home, how
  126. to read and to write because they wanted the Children
  127. to be able to read and write the Torah, the
  128. written word of God that they had at the time.
  129. In fact, there was the same in Jerusalem.
  130. That said, as long as the voices of the Children
  131. can be heard reciting as long as the voices of
  132. Jacob's Children can be heard reciting Torah in the city,
  133. the city will never all to the end of Isa.
  134. So it was very important that the Children learn how
  135. to read and write Scripture.
  136. So this guy probably was trained in these customs from
  137. childhood. Now here he is, an adult.
  138. He's gone to Jerusalem to worship.
  139. Just quickly point out here.
  140. You know what that means?
  141. Sky spent his whole life in church.
  142. It was the way of the Jewish people at the
  143. time. He's traveled 1500 miles to go worship in Jerusalem.
  144. He's probably been a church his entire life, so let's
  145. keep reading this move onto 1st 30 Then Philip ran
  146. up to the chariot and heard the man reading Isaiah
  147. the Prophet.
  148. Do you understand what you're reading, Philip Ass.
  149. How can I said unless someone explains it to me?
  150. So he invited Philip to come up and sit with
  151. him. Now, I had to stop and ask myself a
  152. question. So I don't know really what Philip and the
  153. rest of the disciples dressed and looked like all the
  154. movies that I see these days show that they're kind
  155. of ragged looking and get haircuts are unshaven.
  156. Their feet are dirty.
  157. Uh, it just, you know, they really kind of in
  158. the movies, they make about toe look almost like they
  159. would look like homeless people.
  160. So I think for myself sitting in a part and
  161. I'm reading my Bible and some, this shovel guy who
  162. looks like he needs a haircut and a shave comes
  163. up to me.
  164. He goes, Oh, I see you're reading the Bible.
  165. Do you know what that means?
  166. Did Do you actually understand what you're reading?
  167. And I have a choice.
  168. I can look at him and think we'll become indignant.
  169. What do you need?
  170. Of course I do.
  171. I have a Bible.
  172. I've been in church my whole life.
  173. Of course I know everything that says, uh, or I
  174. can actually take a path of humility in and asked,
  175. Why do you you know something that maybe I haven't
  176. studied because I love to go toe to toe with
  177. the scripture and talk to people about passages and verses
  178. and thoughts and chapters and time periods.
  179. I love those things.
  180. So this Ethiopian, he doesn't become indignant with Philip in
  181. back, he says to him, I'm reading this and I
  182. have no idea what it's saying.
  183. He says, How can I said unless someone explains it
  184. to me?
  185. So he invited Philip to come up and sit with
  186. him. We'll continue reading.
  187. This is a passage of Scripture of the eunuch was
  188. reading. He was led like a sheep to the slaughter
  189. and as a land before it shares his silent.
  190. So he did not open his mouth.
  191. In his humiliation, he was deprived of justice who can
  192. speak of his descendants for his life was taken from
  193. the Earth unit cast billet, Tell me, please, who was
  194. a prophet talking about himself or someone else.
  195. Then Philip began with that very passage of Scripture and
  196. told him he could news about Jesus.
  197. So once again, let's take a look and consider Really,
  198. What's happening?
  199. We got a guy who is trained and in the
  200. Scriptures. Uh, he's probably reading the CEP to a gym,
  201. which is the Greek translation of the Hebrew scriptures.
  202. But, uh, he is educated.
  203. He's gone 1500 mile journey to worship.
  204. He's on his way home.
  205. And so now he realizes, you know, even though I've
  206. been to the temple of that, listen to the priest,
  207. talk their stuff, I just don't understand.
  208. There's there's something more.
  209. I can feel it on the inside.
  210. I'm missing it.
  211. And the spirit since Philip to explain it to him.
  212. And that is so important to really understand, do things
  213. here. Number one.
  214. This guy had a genuine need.
  215. He knew inside that although he was doing all the
  216. right things, that there must be something more.
  217. And he admitted it.
  218. It wasn't a struggle for him to have toe realize
  219. that he just fundamentally nude on the inside me was
  220. okay, was saying No, I don't know.
  221. I don't know the answers.
  222. I would love to, though, And so Philip explains to
  223. him, Jesus and a beautiful thing takes place here as
  224. they traveled along the road.
  225. They came to some water in the UNIX set.
  226. Look, here is water.
  227. What can stand in the way of me being baptized?
  228. Philip said.
  229. If you believe with all your heart, you may the
  230. unit cancer.
  231. I believe that Jesus Christ is the son of God
  232. and he gave orders to stop the chariot.
  233. Then both Philip and the eunuch went down into the
  234. water and Philip baptized him.
  235. Oh, child of God, How beautiful!
  236. In this story, this guy actually needed Jesus but remembered,
  237. I'm trusting that I'm talking to people who have already
  238. said yes to Jesus.
  239. You're making heaven your home.
  240. But yet you actually can honestly say I don't get
  241. it. There's things in the Bible that I read, and
  242. I think that just doesn't make sense to me.
  243. I just am not comfortable with believing what that says
  244. right there or that must have been for somebody else.
  245. But not for me.
  246. All of those things that we say when we come
  247. to those passengers that we don't really fully comprehend.
  248. Uh, so for this the guy had a teachable spirit,
  249. and then the Holy Spirit sent someone to teach the
  250. unit what he needed to know.
  251. And it says when they came up out of the
  252. water and the spirit of the Lord suddenly took Philip
  253. Away, who've gone?
  254. The unit did not see him again, but went on
  255. his way.
  256. Rejoicing. Philip, however, appeared at as taught and traveled about
  257. preaching the gospel in all the towns until he reached
  258. that Syria.
  259. So salvation came to the house of the unit, and
  260. he went back 1500 miles away.
  261. And no doubt, he told his story.
  262. So the great commission was being fulfilled by the action
  263. of the Holy Spirit, sending Philip to talk to this
  264. guy. Phillip had an open spirit to hear the voice
  265. of the spirit, and he had a willingness to go
  266. do what he said.
  267. He went to a guy who had been a church
  268. his whole life and realize he didn't know everything, and
  269. he asked for help.
  270. The spirit of God sent Philip to help him, and
  271. then for him.
  272. His eyes were open.
  273. He said yes to Jesus.
  274. So for us, I'm excited about the next couple of
  275. weeks because there's a reason why the Holy Spirit actually
  276. took care of that Ethiopian and helped him by sending
  277. somebody to learn.
  278. Listen to what Jesus said the Holy Spirit would do.
  279. Jesus said in John, 14.
  280. 26 is recorded.
  281. But the advocate, the Holy Spirit, whom the father will
  282. send in my name will teach you all things.
  283. And we'll remind you of everything I have said to
  284. you. So here's the challenge.
  285. Come back next week because we're gonna actually start to
  286. study the Holy Spirit.
  287. Where to find help when you need it.
  288. Jesus promised the Holy Spirit would be here to help
  289. us. And in Jesus name, I'm gonna help you connect
  290. through God's true and living word with the truth about
  291. the Holy Spirit.
  292. I'm excited about where we're going with that.
  293. So in the meantime, I'm havin a C.
  294. And if you have questions, please reach out to us.
  295. We're here for you and will answer your questions as
  296. best we possibly can about life, the universe and everything
  297. as it relates to God's true and living where the
  298. Holy Bible again?
  299. I'm having any c he will in Jesus name in
