  1. Hey, didn't you?
  2. My name is reachable holding them and entrepreneur in public
  3. speaker operating out of Kate time in South Africa.
  4. And today I want to talk to you about a
  5. concept that I think we spend far too much time
  6. on, and that is the concept of being an imposter.
  7. I think that we need to understand that like sometimes
  8. when it comes up to being in a posture, we
  9. give it far too much at bandwidth, and I understand
  10. that sometimes we feel that we are.
  11. And it's not to say it's not true that we
  12. don't feel like imposters.
  13. I'm saying that maybe it isn't so bad.
  14. So maybe for this I want to give you a
  15. little bit of back story.
  16. I'm a big fan off reading fiction.
  17. In fact, sometimes I think Don't we make we?
  18. Sometimes I think that we make my catches.
  19. I sometimes think that we may over wheat actual nonfiction.
  20. I think we trying to fill a brain with too
  21. much knowledge.
  22. In fact, I believe in this so much that I
  23. actually got a 10 X talk on it called a
  24. catastrophe off in action on I speak about the difference
  25. between the amount of knowledge calories we consume to the
  26. amount of knowledge calories were burned with action.
  27. And I think sometimes one of the anti does this
  28. is reading more fiction.
  29. The cool thing about fiction is that when you read
  30. good books, good novels, often what happens because they're so
  31. well researched nowadays is you learn these cool little facts,
  32. but they sneak their way into your psyche because you
  33. weren't expect you were there for that.
  34. And a recent example of that was this great book
  35. by Heart of Carbon called up the Boy from the
  36. Woods. Much of any of you have read it if
  37. you haven't super fine escapee type novel, but inside it
  38. it introduced me to it, too.
  39. This one fact, this one thing that I've never heard
  40. of before and I will never forget again, and that
  41. is this group here they're called the ghost Armed.
  42. Whether official name is the 23rd hates quarters for headquarters.
  43. Now let me actually show you the guys because it's
  44. credit group that was $1100 million operating throughout World War
  45. Two and bring it into focus a little bit And
  46. if I want you to look at this image, what's
  47. missing? What's missing?
  48. Maybe from their uniforms.
  49. Have a look at their uniforms.
  50. And what would you expect to be on the uniform
  51. off the Italian or an army or a regiment in
  52. the Second World War?
  53. And, of course, what is missing is any form of
  54. insignia. And thank you.
  55. Don't even see the insignia I showed you earlier.
  56. Why was that?
  57. Well, it turns out that 2038 Q.
  58. The Ghost Army were imposters.
  59. What they would do is they would pretend to be
  60. other regiments and battalions to fool the Germans.
  61. So how would they do this?
  62. Well, what they did is they used inflatable tanks, inflatable
  63. airplanes, inflatable jeeps to make out these areas to make
  64. the Germans think lots of lots of Allied forces there.
  65. And of course, the German to then move their their
  66. their armies across.
  67. And maybe then the Allies could actually Steve to a
  68. different site.
  69. In case you think this image is being like hyperbole
  70. or something, this is an actual image off the guys
  71. carrying a tank.
  72. How amazing is that They would blow these things at
  73. work, inflate them not going up.
  74. They wouldn't play these.
  75. These tanks, and they would carry them to where they
  76. needed to be.
  77. And then they would confuse the German.
  78. So when the German planes flew overhead, what would they
  79. see? They would see something like this.
  80. Lots and lots of lots.
  81. Off, off stuff going on like crap.
  82. Gonna move the army, and they would move them over.
  83. In fact, the only real kind of riel vehicles, they
  84. had their with these noise making machines that would create
  85. the sound off, off gunfire or off tanks moving.
  86. So that when you could hear from foreign back, there
  87. are tanks, sent a plane and the descent of the
  88. plane, and these guys would see it.
  89. Now, we only find out this out in about 1996
  90. when this whole mission was declassified and the guys would
  91. be together and tell these stories.
  92. I believe there's a documentary out you can watch watching
  93. YouTube videos.
  94. If you search of the Ghost Army, you'll find it.
  95. So why am I telling you this?
  96. Well, at the moment, one of the programs we've run
  97. is to help people really get ahead.
  98. Is public speakers.
  99. This program called Story to Stage the story got stage
  100. story to stage Taco if you want to check out
  101. more about it.
  102. But I couldn't believe how often people are bringing up
  103. this issue of them feeling like imposters.
  104. Yes, I want to speak about this topic, but I
  105. don't think you know, I have the credibility and in
  106. my mind you have two things.
  107. A speaker.
  108. You have authority or you have ability and you want
  109. to try to do law.
  110. And one you want to increase the incentive.
  111. You know, in the other you want to increase that
  112. you increase the one if you're high authority, low ability
  113. practice. And if you're high ability, law authority, research.
  114. You know, Simon cynic wasn't the world's leading expert in
  115. purpose, but, like put his hand up and had an
  116. idea a concept, and now owns the word why which
  117. is incredible.
  118. And I think this is something we need to do
  119. more and more and more.
  120. In fact, I think, you know yes, we worry about
  121. it. And, yes, have you been coined a phrase point?
  122. What's the phrase Imposter syndrome.
  123. But I think that we should turn around and re
  124. frame the way we think about it.
  125. And the way I think we should reframe it in
  126. the way that we're advising the speakers we work to
  127. it is to say, Well, hold on a second.
  128. Like the Ghost Army.
  129. What have being an imposter?
  130. Was it feature and not a buck?
  131. What about you?
  132. Being in a posture allowed you to step ahead.
  133. Limit, Given example of that are the beginning of locked
  134. on my business, which is a presentation company.
  135. We help businesses won big conferences and events was decimated.
  136. It was destroyed.
  137. Every single conference was cancelled on I realized.
  138. Holy crap, I'm not gonna be able to continue.
  139. So what did I do?
  140. Well, we launched an event.
  141. We said, Okay, cool.
  142. Come to her event.
  143. It's called How to Rocket Desktop Conferencing.
  144. And I know you take your events online and we're
  145. gonna teach you how to do it like a club.
  146. Here's the thing.
  147. I launched this event two weeks before the rich.
  148. I lost this event two weeks before the event actually
  149. happened. We put it out way Had lots of people
  150. say they want it's coming during this up until that
  151. point, we had never, ever produced an online event or
  152. a desktop conference.
  153. This was literally the one Wife told people how to
  154. be experts, and it was literally the first one I
  155. never done.
  156. He has a thing that I realized that there was
  157. a need.
  158. The people needed this.
  159. It was a vacuum of knowledge and that the world
  160. was at a three out of 10 when it came
  161. to not enjoy this.
  162. All I needed to be was a All I needed
  163. to do was do my research in order to get
  164. myself to a four.
  165. And then it wasn't a lie.
  166. I was genuinely the smartest person in the room on
  167. that topic.
  168. You don't have to be a nine, you can be
  169. a four, and then you can get better and better
  170. and better if the need is there.
  171. But people are scared for themselves up there where we
  172. have constant turnaround.
  173. We think about we think well, no, but we have
  174. to be an expert before their hands up, and I
  175. don't think we have to.
  176. In fact, years ago, this gentleman came to my office
  177. in a way back into early 2000 who are very
  178. prolific progress.
  179. We had a big international block cultural world in a
  180. local block called Joe Blogger were pretty well known, and
  181. this young guy came to my office.
  182. He being actually employed to write some blog's for this
  183. other organization.
  184. And she came to her office 2 m and one
  185. of the questions he asked, Why don't you give this
  186. profession? You got these other businesses?
  187. You shouldn't be doing this for business.
  188. I was thinking, Well, um, sure, but like, it's not
  189. really airspace.
  190. And is there a market there?
  191. You know, maybe one of the experts.
  192. Yet I'm already sure what we know about this thing.
  193. You know, it's kind of putting yourself out there and
  194. that he went around and he asked all the prolific
  195. bloggers of the time why they are doing this professionally
  196. and eventually, whatever I said, Well, if you guys are
  197. going to do it, I'm gonna do it.
  198. And he basically quit his job and started consulting people
  199. on how to become to create dogs for business.
  200. And he became the expert very quickly.
  201. In fact, he ended up standing his business for a
  202. fortune many, many years later.
  203. This is called cerebral, and this may be coined, a
  204. phrase that I refer to as stop fourths law named
  205. after Mike Stop Fourth.
  206. Not to be confused with stop fourth slaw, which is
  207. delicious pineapple but still ports along and so forth.
  208. Law is very simply, this.
  209. In any area or in any field that lacks an
  210. expert, whoever steps up and speaks up first becomes it.
  211. So what I'm saying to you is that you have
  212. to embrace the fact that you're in a posture, embrace
  213. the fact you don't know and improve that with research.
  214. Be one step ahead of the markets on Put your
  215. ideas out there.
  216. This is permission for you to decide to become an
  217. expert in a field and lacks one by simply putting
  218. yourself out there.
  219. By the way, that could be a world leading experts
  220. on blogging, but they may not exist in your community
  221. that may not exist in the era of influence that
  222. you have and me, I'm just challenge you to go
  223. out there, step up and lead loud, because I think
  224. sometimes we all need to embrace the fact that we
  225. may many be impossible.
  226. Get back
