Hi, everyone.

Good morning.

Welcome to Day Three of Ma Kilos.

Devotional series for holy week.

Ah, happy Tuesday.

My name is Melissa Long.

Many of you know Mia's Mellie and I'm one of

the leaders with Marcello.

And it's my great pleasure to be here with you

this morning to share the devotional teaching for today.

And so the passage that we're gonna be taking a

look at eyes Mark, Chapter 12 vs 41 through 44.

So if you have your Bibles and you want to

open up and read along with me, feel free to

do so I'll be reading from the E S P

version this morning.

And just because, like a short background to this message,

um, it's one of the last days leading up to

use This is death and resurrection.

And he is in Jerusalem at the temple, there with

his disciples.

And so that's where we pick up it says.

And he, uh he being Jesus sat down opposite the

treasury and watch the people putting money into the offering

box. Many rich people put in large sum, and a

poor widow came and put in two small copper coins

which make a penny.

And he called his disciples to him and he said

to them, Truly I say to you, this poor widow

has put in more than all those who are contributing

to the offering box for they all contributed out of

their abundance.

But she out of her poverty was putting everything she

had. All she had a little.

And so taking a look at this passage, I think

you know the big takeaway from it this morning is

that, you know, Jesus values offerings of scarcity.

He puts a high value when we, uh, make offerings

to him out of scarcity or lack of resources.

In this passage, he specifically knows how right It's not

all the rich people who are contributing these large sums

of money to the temple that he values or that

he commends, You know, it's this woman who puts in

on what what combines two just a penny, right?

Her one penny that he commends her for because she

gives not out of abundance but her lack of financial

resources out of her scarcity.

Um, and I think that this is a message that

we can take and that is relevant to us today,

especially during our uncertain times.

You know, Coben, 19.

Um, I think, you know, we in our communities, our

family, our friends are all facing times of scarcity, right?

There's a great fear or anxiety or worry about scarcity.

Lack of resource is whether it's financial, whether it's food.

Ah, whether it's toilet paper right there.

There are many areas that I think we're facing today,

given a cove in 19 that makes us realize that

we have a scarcity or lack of the sources.

And so I think that, you know, this is a

message that Jesus definitely wants to speak to us this

morning. And you know, when speaking about you know, scarcely

your lack of resources.

You know, I realized that often times right.

It's easier to give when we feel like we have

a lot.

And it's a lot harder to give when we feel

like we don't have a lot right.

And I think for us, you know, when it comes

to scarcity or lack of resources, there's going to be

basically two different kinds of responses that will naturally have

to it.

Um, and the first response, you know that I think

some people will have is, you know, I don't have

a lot to give or don't have a lot to

offer. Therefore, it is not worth giving.

I think, you know, for some of us will feel

like what we have is so little that it's, you

know, really not worth offering someone else.

It's really not good enough.

It's really not enough.

So, you know, there's just really no point in giving

or offering that.

Um, And I think for others of us, you know

what would tend to naturally fall into the mindset of,

Well, I don't have a lot to give.

Therefore, I need to keep what little I have for

myself, right?

And, you know, I think that regardless of which of

the two of you tend to find yourself in or

which is it to you find yourself in today?

Um, I think that deal offers the same invitation.

And that invitation, through scarcity, is to grow in greater

trust and greater worship of God, right?

Whether it's the first, you know, feeling like what I

have so little and it's not enough to offer, right?

Do I trust Jesus enough that you know that what

little I give.

He can multiply that he can use for his good

and his purposes that he will bring about his glory

and my good left through that giving right, Do I

do. I trust Jesus, Anna, that I'm willing to worship

and give out of that scarcity.

And if you fall into the second camp of goes

to, you know, have lack of resources and therefore feel

like they need to keep it for themselves, I think

the invitation is Do you trust me?

This thing?

Now that, um, you know what little you have, you'll

give it to him.

You trusted You will provide for all your knees provide

for your family, provide for your well being and that

he will work for his glory in your gut.

Right? Do you trust him enough?

And are you willing to worship him and give out

of that lack of resource today?

And you know, this is something that I you know

I have to deal with in my own life.

Um, I am a mother to a newborn.

He's about three weeks old now, Um, and my first

baby. And you know, life has completely changed and scarcity

that I'm facing today is lack of time.

I feel like around the clock, all I do is

feed or punk or change diapers or, uh, you know,

wash dirty clothes.

You know, burping responding to crying are testing babies round

the clock.

I feel like all I do is spend my time

meeting his needs, and so outside of that, you know

what little time I have left?

You know, I find myself having, you know, being tempted

to have both of the responses, you know, to scarcity.

Right? On the one hand, if I just have five

or 10 minutes and, you know, I really know that

I could spend that time with the Lord might my

Sometimes we'll feel like Wow, you know, I just have

so little time.

I just have so little time.

Five or 10 minutes, you know, really Not enough time

to go deep to spend time with the Lord to

read my Bible on to do a lot of prayer.

So, you know, maybe it's just not worth doing at

all, right?

Or other times, You know, when I do have a

little bit more time, I'm also attempted to feel like?

Well, I have so little time to myself that I

really just want to do something that I enjoy doing.

You know, whether that's watching an episode of the office

or trying to catch up on some of the sweetheart

in this scene at night, you know, whatever the case

may be, you know, I am tempted to feel that

way, right?

That what little time I have I want to keep

an eye go.

And so I know that Jesus is invitation is the

same to me today, right?

So I trust him enough that with whatever little time

I give to him to trust that you will put

a value on it, that he will multiply it.

So I trust that you will give me the rest

that I so desperately want and that I so desperately

need, right and in my willing to worship him enough

that I will give out of that lack of resource

to him today until the reflection for all of you

today is the same.

You know what is an area of scarcity that you

are facing?

And how can you make an offering to God out

of that scarcity?

And before I end, I just kind of wanted to

remind everyone Ah, that we have our Good Friday live

gathering. That's gonna be on zoom, uh, taking place at

7 p.m. That night and an invitation for all of

the members of Oliver Mission all communities to come together

and suggest spend some time reflecting on the sacrifice of

Jesus. Um, so that's gonna be again this week, Friday

at 7 p.m. On June.

Well, thanks so much for letting me share with you

today. I pray that, you know, you would just be

blessed and that you would, uh, accept the invitation that

you just offers you today to grow and greater trust

in love for him, right?
