00:01 - 00:01
good afternoon.
00:01 - 00:02
Who? The Knights and families.
00:03 - 00:04
I hope you guys are having a fabulous day.
00:04 - 00:06
This is Miss Perez from Team Green.
00:07 - 00:08
And this is my girl, Luna.
00:09 - 00:10
We're coming at you live from my home on behalf
00:11 - 00:13
of the science department to fill you all in on
00:13 - 00:15
what, the next two weeks they're gonna look like in
00:15 - 00:16
terms of science, distance learning.
00:17 - 00:20
So, as you guys already know, the E learning for
00:20 - 00:23
science will be done through Google Classroom, where all class
00:23 - 00:25
materials for the next two weeks is already available.
00:26 - 00:28
So students and access their classrooms by logging in with
00:29 - 00:31
their student I d S t 1 62 dot or
00:31 - 00:32
GE and their password is they're cool.
00:33 - 00:34
I d number Google.
00:35 - 00:37
So students were sent home with an informational letter that
00:37 - 00:39
told them a little bit more on what that will
00:39 - 00:40
look like.
00:40 - 00:42
So if you are unable to gain access to Google
00:42 - 00:44
classroom, hard copies were sent home yesterday.
00:45 - 00:47
And if for whatever reason, you have trouble accessing class
00:47 - 00:50
materials and need to get your hands on a hard
00:50 - 00:52
copy, you can come to the truth building where an
00:52 - 00:55
administrator can provide you with the material, which is the
00:55 - 00:58
same exact thing that is available online.
00:59 - 01:01
So I did want to make this video to give
01:01 - 01:02
a quick overview on what the science learning is gonna
01:03 - 01:05
look like for seventh and eight grade seventh graders.
01:06 - 01:06
The topic.
01:06 - 01:09
You will be focusing on our cell organelles from the
01:09 - 01:11
parts of the cell una and working with science related
01:12 - 01:14
vocabulary. So throughout the course of the next two weeks,
01:15 - 01:16
you will be completing to learning tasks.
01:17 - 01:19
The first is creating a cell city where the objective
01:20 - 01:22
is to create a model that includes 11 of the
01:22 - 01:25
organelles that we've already learned their functions and to create
01:25 - 01:28
a metaphor that compares the organ l to another structure
01:29 - 01:30
in a city that has a similar function.
01:31 - 01:34
So, for example, if you're considering the nucleus, think about
01:35 - 01:37
its job that it has inside a cell and think
01:37 - 01:39
about what part of a city has a similar function
01:40 - 01:40
to the nucleus.
01:41 - 01:43
You're gonna be doing that for the other 10 organelles.
01:44 - 01:45
The second learning task.
01:45 - 01:48
It's creating a through Z word book, the words Ah,
01:49 - 01:51
science teachers are looking for our words that are gonna
01:51 - 01:55
be science related and their vocabulary words that we have
01:55 - 01:56
already closely studied.
01:57 - 01:59
They're words that you want to learn, or they are
01:59 - 02:02
words that you hear in current events or any other
02:02 - 02:05
science related experience that you may encounter throughout your time
02:05 - 02:05
spent at home.
02:06 - 02:09
All 26 letters of the alphabet must be done, and
02:09 - 02:12
you must create a definition for each word in your
02:12 - 02:12
own words.
02:13 - 02:15
Finally, a picture must be included.
02:16 - 02:17
This will be done on Google slides, which is already
02:18 - 02:20
provided on Google Classroom, along with the Cells City assignment.
02:21 - 02:23
This is your time to get creative with it Now.
02:24 - 02:27
For my eighth graders, your topic is centering on the
02:28 - 02:29
elements on the periodic table.
02:30 - 02:31
Throughout the course of the next two weeks, you will
02:31 - 02:34
adopt five elements of your choosing and complete two assignments
02:34 - 02:35
per element.
02:35 - 02:38
So the first is an informational sheet which provided on
02:38 - 02:41
Google docks or hard Copy, where you will include the
02:41 - 02:46
elements name its symbol, atomic number, atomic mass melting, point
02:46 - 02:47
boiling point and so on.
02:48 - 02:50
Just fill in whatever information they're asking youto to fill
02:50 - 02:53
it, and you can find that using your textbooks or
02:53 - 02:56
a variety of sources, such as websites on that you
02:56 - 02:59
find online or books anything that you need to get
02:59 - 03:01
that information, just make sure that you cite your sources.
03:02 - 03:03
The second is an advertisement for your element.
03:04 - 03:06
And this is where you get creative, sell your element,
03:06 - 03:07
make it look cool.
03:07 - 03:09
Come up with a slogan and include pictures and so
03:09 - 03:11
on. This is your time and just have fun with
03:11 - 03:13
it. So now that we have the low down on
03:14 - 03:16
the learning task, let's talk a little bit more about
03:16 - 03:18
this week about what this week is gonna look like.
03:19 - 03:22
So for today, we didn't have any school because you
03:22 - 03:24
were closed due to the Olympic primaries.
03:25 - 03:28
And on Wednesday, which is tomorrow was when we are
03:28 - 03:32
gonna start with this whole learning process and Wednesdays and
03:32 - 03:33
eighth grade day.
03:34 - 03:37
And on Thursday we have seventh grade, Day one, and
03:37 - 03:39
then on Friday we have eight grade date, too.
03:40 - 03:42
So for Wednesday, for my eighth graders, you're gonna pick
03:42 - 03:45
your first element that you were gonna adopt and you
03:45 - 03:48
were gonna create an info sheet and create an advertisement
03:49 - 03:50
for that one element.
03:53 - 03:56
And then for my seven creators, you were gonna create
03:56 - 03:58
your cell City Day one task, which is to brainstorm
03:59 - 04:02
yourself city designed read pages 54 to 63 in your
04:02 - 04:06
textbooks to identify what the organelles are and what their
04:06 - 04:10
functions are and right, um, and write the function for
04:10 - 04:11
each organ all listed above.
04:13 - 04:14
You're also going to start with your vocab words and
04:15 - 04:16
complete letters A through heat.
04:18 - 04:19
Finally, for eighth grade, you're gonna pick your second element,
04:20 - 04:23
and you're gonna provide You're gonna complete info sheet number
04:23 - 04:27
two and then create advertisement number two and I'll finally
04:28 - 04:31
after you ever done with your assignments a weekly challenge
04:31 - 04:33
be provided on Google classroom, and this is totally optional.
04:34 - 04:35
But I think it's a great way to inquire more
04:36 - 04:39
about science topics going on in the world around us.
04:39 - 04:41
And I think this is a great activity to do
04:41 - 04:43
is we're all confined to our homes and it might
04:43 - 04:45
help you get a better understanding on why're we're here
04:45 - 04:49
in the situation in the first place and the challenge
04:49 - 04:53
activity is called, um, life size.
04:53 - 04:56
And what it does it explores is the size and
04:56 - 04:57
scale of a microscopic biology.
04:58 - 05:00
And not only is it hard to conceptualize things that
05:00 - 05:02
are too small to see, but it's often surprising.
05:02 - 05:05
Discover the range of sizes in the microscopic world.
05:05 - 05:07
So in this activity you're gonna learn exactly how a
05:07 - 05:11
small of viruses and this activity compares the relative sizes
05:12 - 05:14
of biological objects that can't be seen by the naked
05:14 - 05:17
eye. So it just gives you a better understanding on
05:17 - 05:21
this whole virus talk that's going on, and you can
05:21 - 05:22
definitely learned a lot through it.
05:23 - 05:24
So that's it for me.
05:25 - 05:26
We will definitely keep you updated.
05:27 - 05:29
Um, with as this next week goes on, just make
05:30 - 05:33
sure that you follow the timeline of what you need
05:33 - 05:35
to complete your assignments next week.
05:35 - 05:38
For eighth graders, you're gonna do elements two and three
05:38 - 05:41
and then for my seven creators, you we're gonna move
05:41 - 05:45
forward with, um, using your cell city designed to complete
05:45 - 05:47
the cell city key, and you're gonna create a blueprint
05:48 - 05:51
for a blueprint or a map or a Google slide
05:51 - 05:53
of your cell city design.
05:54 - 05:56
Make sure that you're following the rubrics for each of
05:56 - 05:56
these assignments.
05:57 - 05:59
If you have any questions at all, please reach out
05:59 - 06:01
to your science teachers and will be more than happy
06:01 - 06:04
to assist you with anything as we're available from 9
06:04 - 06:05
to 2 p.m. every day.
06:06 - 06:09
Thank you both nights and have a great rest of
06:09 - 06:09
your day.
06:09 - 06:13
Stay safe, stay clean, have fun with your loved ones
06:13 - 06:15
and enjoy the rest of your day.
