  1. Okay, so this is Thomas Hopkins.
  2. Gallaudet and I decided to do my research on him.
  3. Um, this is him up close.
  4. Um, so on December 10th, 17 87 Gallaudet was born
  5. in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
  6. Um, he was one toward a loving family whose father
  7. was Peter Wallace Galya and Jane Hopkins.
  8. Which a za mother.
  9. He had two siblings.
  10. William Edgar Gallaudet and and what's, um, When he was
  11. young, his him and his family moved to Hartford, Connecticut,
  12. which is about 300 miles away.
  13. Um, when he was 15, he enrolled into Yale University
  14. and graduated in 18.
  15. 052 months before his 18th birthday.
  16. He was the youngest, graduated the youngest in his class,
  17. and he earned the highest honor awards.
  18. After this, he pursued law.
  19. Hey, also was a tutor.
  20. But due to his health problems, hey.
  21. Had to stop.
  22. And he became a door to door salesman, um, in
  23. Kentucky and Ohio.
  24. He waas actually teaching.
  25. He went thio families, um, in the country there.
  26. And they had Children who wasn't able to go to
  27. school because the teachers didn't want to teach them.
  28. Um, because the teachers were from the city.
  29. So this is inspired him to become a minister and
  30. teach the Bible and geography or anything else you learn
  31. in school.
  32. So Oh, he would then also go to, um, and
  33. over to the end over theological seminary, Um, 18.
  34. 14. He would be a licensed minister.
  35. Also, in 18 14, he went to go visit his
  36. family and he noticed that two of his siblings weren't
  37. playing with this girl.
  38. And he wondered why her name was Alice Cox.
  39. Well, and he found out that she was actually deaf,
  40. So he was very intrigued about this.
  41. He actually want to learn more and be able to
  42. teach her.
  43. So he started working with her and he found out
  44. that there was a school in Europe that taught the
  45. death. And so he talked to her parents and asked
  46. if she would be able to go.
  47. But because she was so young, they said that they
  48. would rather have him go to Europe, learn about the
  49. death. And then when he comes back, they can establish
  50. a school and he can become a principal.
  51. So that's exactly what he did when he traveled to
  52. Europe. He met a lot of friends and that learned
  53. about and he learned about the deaf and he went
  54. to a place called the Yeah, let's see the Royal
  55. institution for deaf mutes in Paris.
  56. Um, so he traveled all over to learn.
  57. And when he came back, he established the Connecticut asylum
  58. for the education and instruction of deaf and dumb persons
  59. with the Cogswell family.
  60. Um, in 18 21 he married Sophia Fowler, which is
  61. fun fact she actually graduated from the deaf school he
  62. established, um, in 18.
  63. 31 he retired and became a minister.
  64. And sadly, and on September 10th, 18 51 he died
  65. due to lung failure.
  66. But in conclusion, he lived an amazing life, and he
  67. left a legacy no one will ever forget.
  68. He taught the deaf and the hearing people, um, about
  69. how about the death and how to communicate with them
  70. and treat them like regular human beings?
  71. Um, yeah,
