00:01 - 00:06
Hey I'm call your person and this is my oral presentation
00:06 - 00:11
to I will be talking about Toronto Canada business etiquette.
00:11 - 00:14
I'm doing Toronto Canada because this is the place that
00:14 - 00:18
my group group three will be doing for our project.
00:18 - 00:23
So I broke it down into three main parts that I'll be talking about.
00:23 - 00:26
It will be the introduction slash greeting,
00:27 - 00:31
body language and business meetings and dining etiquette
00:31 - 00:33
and my last slide will be my resources.
00:33 - 00:38
So as you see, I have the Canadian flag at the bottom to have a little
00:38 - 00:39
added
00:39 - 00:42
now we'll get into the introduction ingredient.
00:44 - 00:46
Okay, I have a few points.
00:46 - 00:51
We sit here on things you should do when you're first meeting someone.
00:51 - 00:56
So this is pretty standard. Um Handshakes are the most appropriate greetings.
00:57 - 01:02
I mean some people may do hugs but if it's your first time,
01:02 - 01:05
definitely handshakes are the best things to do.
01:05 - 01:11
Also if a handshake is not extended ahead night will be taken
01:12 - 01:13
warmly.
01:13 - 01:17
So some places it may be rude to do head and eyes,
01:17 - 01:21
but in Toronto Canada head and eyes are welcomed.
01:22 - 01:28
I did something similar to this on my oral presentation one where
01:29 - 01:37
in Taiwan, handshake should not be firm but in Canada handshakes should be firm
01:37 - 01:39
and that's pretty normal to me.
01:39 - 01:43
I guess living in the States, how handshake should be firm
01:44 - 01:50
that people don't take light handshakes lightly. I guess it's like a sign of
01:51 - 01:57
maybe insecurity or nervousness go into something with a firm handshake.
01:57 - 02:00
It will make a difference from personal experience.
02:00 - 02:03
I gave someone a stern handshake.
02:03 - 02:08
I think I was going to interview maybe and they remember me by that handshake
02:10 - 02:13
be on time, punctuality is key.
02:13 - 02:17
If you are supposed to meet someone, especially for the first time,
02:17 - 02:19
please be on time.
02:19 - 02:21
It will make a big difference.
02:21 - 02:24
It will put a bad taste in someone's mouth if
02:24 - 02:28
you are not on time because they will always remember you
02:28 - 02:30
as the person that is like
02:31 - 02:33
contain eye contact.
02:33 - 02:36
Keep eye contact with people when you're talking,
02:36 - 02:38
eye contact should be something that scared
02:38 - 02:40
because it's making the conversation more personable.
02:41 - 02:44
That's also a better way to show someone that you're not
02:44 - 02:47
nervous and you're very secure in what you're talking about.
02:47 - 02:49
Also be approachable,
02:49 - 02:54
I like this part because some people are not approachable and I have met so
02:54 - 02:58
many people that I feel like aren't approachable and so with people like that,
02:58 - 03:02
you try to shy away from communicating with them.
03:02 - 03:04
And also that will leave a bad taste in
03:04 - 03:07
someone's mouth as well if you aren't approachable.
03:07 - 03:11
So we'll go to my next slab, which is body language,
03:13 - 03:15
body language is key.
03:15 - 03:18
We talk about this and all of my business classes
03:18 - 03:22
on how to have body language in the business world,
03:23 - 03:29
as I said in the last lie, eye contact is important in this case, I'm gonna use it,
03:29 - 03:30
say you're like in a medium,
03:31 - 03:32
keep container,
03:32 - 03:36
I content with whoever you are talking to this will
03:36 - 03:40
show that you know exactly what you are talking about.
03:40 - 03:43
That's something that I have always heard and that's something
03:43 - 03:47
I have heard in every single class throughout college.
03:47 - 03:50
Keep eye contact, especially when you're presenting
03:50 - 03:53
or having a simple conversation. Keep that eye contact.
03:54 - 03:57
This is something else that I've heard all my life.
03:58 - 04:01
Never use your index finger to point at someone.
04:02 - 04:04
First of all, don't point at someone at all.
04:04 - 04:08
It is considered rule and it's considered rude in Canada
04:09 - 04:13
and here my mom has always hope has always told me,
04:14 - 04:18
do not point at anyone that is something really rude to do.
04:19 - 04:21
Um The last thing you want to hit on this slide
04:21 - 04:26
which is really funny to me avoid wearing anything scented soap,
04:26 - 04:29
perfumes, lotions,
04:29 - 04:31
anything that has a scent on it.
04:31 - 04:35
Don't wear that to be aware of people that might have allergies.
04:35 - 04:39
I understand, but in my opinion,
04:40 - 04:44
I don't even know how I would handle not wearing perfume every day in Canada.
04:46 - 04:50
Next slide is business meetings and dining etiquette
04:52 - 04:54
dress conservative.
04:54 - 04:56
Don't wear anything revealing.
04:56 - 05:00
I think if I was to have a business meeting in Canada,
05:00 - 05:05
I will go in wearing something that I know what an offending one.
05:05 - 05:10
So I will wear a dress that covers up my whole top area and I will
05:10 - 05:14
make sure if I'm wearing a dress or skirt to make sure it's below my knees.
05:14 - 05:20
Also, I will wear a suit as well with a nice button down, showing nothing.
05:20 - 05:26
I just feel like you should do that anyway regardless on regardless of where you are.
05:26 - 05:30
I feel like there's very respectful to dress conservative around someone.
05:30 - 05:34
You don't want to be that person that they remember you by having your cleavage out.
05:34 - 05:35
That's not cute at all.
05:36 - 05:38
Once again, be punctual,
05:39 - 05:43
punctuality is key. Especially when you are having a meeting,
05:43 - 05:45
be punctual, don't come in.
05:45 - 05:48
Like I see a lot of times on like tv and stuff,
05:48 - 05:52
people show up to meetings late and they get fired.
05:52 - 05:56
It's really crazy to think about but you really have to be on time,
05:56 - 05:58
especially in the working field.
05:59 - 06:01
Last thing I'll talk about on here.
06:02 - 06:05
Um if you get invited out to have drinks go,
06:05 - 06:08
if you don't go it should be for a good reason.
06:09 - 06:12
I mean I guess that will make sense if someone invites you somewhere,
06:12 - 06:15
take the opportunity to go out with them because they
06:15 - 06:19
will probably be your last offer if someone doesn't,
06:19 - 06:20
if you don't take their first offer.
06:20 - 06:23
So just always try to you know,
06:23 - 06:26
go out and be social with people that you are working with.
06:27 - 06:30
It will make a big difference in the long run. Trust me,
06:30 - 06:33
just networking. I look at this like networking
06:34 - 06:36
so just continue to
06:37 - 06:40
always take those offers that someone gives you.
06:41 - 06:45
That is my last slide. My last slide
06:45 - 06:47
is the resources
06:47 - 06:49
and I only have two resources and they gave me
06:49 - 06:53
a lot of information and I am grateful for that.
06:53 - 06:58
And that's the end of my toronto Canada business etiquette presentation.
