  1. Hello and welcome to another writing lesson.
  2. So what?
  3. We have been working with the giant dance party in
  4. some of our other videos in our lessons that you've
  5. been doing.
  6. So we're going to continue that in our writing, and
  7. we're going to use the giant dance party to talk
  8. about how we can add feeling into our writing to
  9. keep stretching and expanding our stories because you've been doing
  10. so good.
  11. So what I'm gonna do is I'm going to pull
  12. up another picture for you, and we're gonna read part
  13. of the story together, and we're going to talk about
  14. what feelings they used, how they use wth.
  15. Um all right.
  16. So what says when What she did not love was
  17. dancing in a show.
  18. The curtains open.
  19. Lexi would step onto the stage desperately wanting to dance,
  20. But those eyes and the audience would look right at
  21. her and she would forget to breathe.
  22. Then she'd freeze like a nice spot and never dance.
  23. Step? Not one, not ever.
  24. Why would you think first graders, What feeling is the
  25. author writing about?
  26. I'm gonna say that again.
  27. What feeling is the author writing about?
  28. Think about that for a minute.
  29. I'm looking at her picture and I'm trying to use
  30. her facial expressions.
  31. Some of those words she forgot to breathe.
  32. She froze like an ice pop.
  33. She never danced a step.
  34. I'm thinking that the author wrote it so we would
  35. know that her character, Lexi, she gets really scared.
  36. She's a really stage fright.
  37. She doesn't want to move in front of those eyes.
  38. She forgets to breathe.
  39. She freezes like a nice crop.
  40. She's scared.
  41. She's nervous.
  42. But first graders, did you notice how the author, she
  43. didn't say Lexi was scared.
  44. Lexi was nervous.
  45. The author, you some details to tell us.
  46. How are character was feeling.
  47. We have toe in for that out from the writing.
  48. Okay, let's look at one more example.
  49. How do you All right, so this says, I know
  50. this one's a little bit harder, but go ahead and
  51. just listen with me.
  52. It says.
  53. The Giants took their bows with pride, and as they
  54. drew Lexi up for the final encore, she beamed.
  55. Her fears were long gone.
  56. She may not have been a giant, but boy, did
  57. she feel big first groups.
  58. What are you thinking about that feeling that that author
  59. was writing about.
  60. I'm gonna say that one more time.
  61. What feeling do you think the author was writing about?
  62. How did the author storage their story here?
  63. Pause and think about that for a minute.
  64. Yeah, you might be thinking first critters.
  65. Well, it says she beamed.
  66. Her fears were long gone, so she's not scared or
  67. nervous now.
  68. She may not have been a giant, but she felt
  69. big. If she's beaming and she feels big, how is
  70. she feeling?
  71. First graders?
  72. Yeah, she's feeling excited.
  73. She's proud.
  74. She's happy.
  75. She is proud and happy, which means that she's beaming
  76. and she is big.
  77. I was always first.
  78. Graders at the author stretch their writing to add some
  79. more detail to their story.
  80. Now, if they had just wrote, Let's see what's happy
  81. Would that have told us how happy Lex Iwas?
  82. No, The author used more detailed to keep stretching that
  83. story so we could see that she beamed.
  84. We could see the big smile.
  85. We can see how big she felt in this part
  86. of the book, which is very important for us to
  87. understand Lex.
  88. He has a character here.
  89. So first printers in your job this week, I want
  90. you to try to keep stretching your story.
  91. So we've been talking about how we can use setting.
  92. We talked about how we can use dialogue, and now
  93. we're adding and feeling we can talk about those feelings.
  94. So maybe in your story you're writing about I waas
  95. sad. Or maybe you wrote I was really mad.
  96. I don't know.
  97. But in your stories, take that feeling instead of telling
  98. me how you were feeling or how your other character
  99. was feeling you.
  100. Some details stretch it like this story, and this author
  101. does. This author does a really nice chap of using
  102. and describing a feeling instead of telling us how our
  103. character was feeling.
  104. That is your job for it today.
  105. We look forward to having you back in class later
  106. on because, as always, if you have questions, please feel
  107. free to ask otherwise.
  108. Happy writing authors by
