  1. them versus us.
  2. This is a common theme that consistently shows up in
  3. these three pieces of literature reviewed by our English class,
  4. Spiegelman's mouths one and 2
  5. and Kate Morris, Radium Girls.
  6. Who are they
  7. and who are We?
  8. Them versus us refers to people's different
  9. perspectives based on things such as race,
  10. religion,
  11. class
  12. and or gender,
  13. Then
  14. being the opposing point of view
  15. and us being our own perspectives.
  16. We normally look at the
  17. then
  18. and the them versus us
  19. as somewhat of an antagonist,
  20. and we look at the US
  21. and them versus us as the protagonist.
  22. Since this perspective alliance with their own,
  23. this picture here represents a dark versus like
  24. we're like a good versus evil depiction of
  25. them versus us.
  26. Us would be the light hand moving the light chest pieces
  27. in them will be the dark hand
  28. moving. A dark dress abuses
  29. when talking about a perspective outside of your own,
  30. which would be to them.
  31. You can refer to them as the other
  32. and Kate Moore's Radium Girls.
  33. The other are portrayed as women, especially those of lower social economic class.
  34. These such women were the main targets for employment
  35. within the many radium factories across the country.
  36. The corporation's main concern was only for profit.
  37. While they disregarded the health of their employees,
  38. one of the owners of the factories ended up developing a cancer,
  39. which led to the removal of his finger,
  40. which is pictured in black and white below.
  41. Just like how the corporation tried to silence the main protagonist, Catherine,
  42. they tried to silence one of their own,
  43. the owner,
  44. to keep the company's health issues under wraps,
  45. allowing them to stay open and proceed to profit.
  46. The picture above depicts just how intense
  47. the health issues became.
  48. Some issues included tooth decay, loss of life.
  49. John was dissolving
  50. and Boone's breeding.
  51. In Spiegelman's Maus,
  52. we follow a story based off of the Holocaust
  53. with mice as the main characters of the story,
  54. the disregard for the race and religion of the other.
  55. The mice
  56. is a parent.
  57. The Nazi pigs in the story viewed themselves as a superior race over the mice
  58. who depicted the Jewish in persecution.
  59. In the picture above,
  60. we see a glimpse on how the Nazi pigs dominated the
  61. mice with the notion that they were a superior race.
  62. The Nazi pigs killed off anyone who was old sick.
  63. Where was generally not abuse.
  64. The amount of lives taken cause bodies to pile up and begin to need to be removed
  65. as depicted in the picture below.
  66. The main character, Wladek
  67. tried to sell everything he had in order to escape the Constitution camp
  68. and survived
  69. led to no avail.
  70. This goes to show that not even your economic class can
  71. save you from the from the prejudice of the Nazis.
  72. Both works focused on a difference of treatment between
  73. those between those individuals viewed as the others.
  74. There's little regard for their health, wealth and overall well being
  75. if you are not a part of the group seen as superior
  76. and you are disaggregated.
