  1. Hello, everyone.
  2. My name is Kathy Rivera, and today I'll be doing
  3. my course project on my friend Karina.
  4. The main topic.
  5. ISS Mental health.
  6. Yeah, for some background, Um, Karina's a 15 year old
  7. high school student.
  8. I'm born in the United States.
  9. Her parents are both Hispanic, and she has a twin
  10. sister. Sadly, she has being marginalized by society because of
  11. her bipolar disorder and social isolation in constant mood swings.
  12. A risk factor is that she belongs to a minority
  13. group. A minority group is a superb of the population
  14. to shares social, religious and racial things that are different
  15. from a majority group on current has been affected by
  16. these due to the fact that they don't have that
  17. much access it.
  18. Access to high quality health care.
  19. The predictors for a minority group are in a inaccessibility
  20. off high quality mental health care service.
  21. Three cultural stigma surrounding mental health care, uh, stigmas that
  22. you shouldn't see a doctor just because you have mental
  23. problems. They they normally expect you to be to have
  24. a healthy mental life.
  25. So there's a cultural stigma.
  26. Um, when it comes to a minority group and also
  27. the overall lack off awareness about mental health because minority
  28. groups don't often talk about mental problems for bipolar word
  29. soldiers. And the outcomes for this is that she feels
  30. isolated from all of her family and friends.
  31. She doesn't like sharing us just feeling because her family
  32. my gesture or accuse her off, lying or over exaggerating
  33. and also the lack of self expression, which normally leads
  34. to depression in social anxiety.
  35. Another risk factor is that she has an unsupportive family,
  36. the predictors for this ISS that it's the parents, lack
  37. of understanding of Children's need, their development and parenting skill.
  38. For example, um, the lack of understanding that kids need
  39. hugs, love and support, and also another predictor for a
  40. supportive family is the parental history off Shiloh abuse and
  41. neglect. For example, if the parents have been, um, abuse
  42. physically, verbally, when they were little or neglected, which means
  43. that they didn't support it or meet their basic needs
  44. like food, water, shelter and also on Karina is continuing
  45. that family transgenerational cycle of depression, and the outcomes for
  46. this is that the mother could develop postpartum depression.
  47. She doesn't feel in Karina because of this current it
  48. doesn't feel loved and important on whatever she does, they
  49. complain about it.
  50. Her parents, parents and style is authoritative ring and which
  51. means that they are very strict.
  52. They applied, apply good behavior, usually through threats, Um, JJ
  53. aiming or even physical punishment, which means that if she
  54. doesn't do something right or she makes a little mistake,
  55. they'll get mad at her for not accomplishing it perfectly.
  56. And because of this, she feels pressure by her parents
  57. on how she should behave.
  58. They expect her to be a good girl at all
  59. times. Another risk factor is on the bipolar disorder that
  60. she has thesis, also called manic depression or bipolar depression.
  61. Because it usually happens in episodes where people sometimes they
  62. feel happy and then they they'll feel angry or sad,
  63. so they experience extreme shift in mood.
  64. The predictors were bipolar.
  65. Disorder is the main ones are depression, stressed, drug, drug
  66. or alcohol abuse.
  67. The outcomes for this is theory, loss, off interest in
  68. daily activities, loss of energy, low motivation in society thoughts.
  69. So Karina doesn't like going to the park or going
  70. to the mall like the basic things that you should
  71. lead teenagers enjoy, like going shopping or going to the
  72. park and hang out with your friend.
  73. But she does not like those things.
  74. And she she she has told me before that she
  75. feels like she wants to kill herself because no one
  76. understands her.
  77. But then other days she was like, Well, I'm fine.
  78. I'm doing okay.
  79. So just often experiencing different moods.
  80. And this is why she has Bean diagnosed with bipolar
  81. disorder, and she has seen a psychologist before once.
  82. But she didn't follow it just because she didn't feel
  83. comfortable and because her family put pressure on her that
  84. she had to be good like this dead same day
  85. that she saw talked to the psychologist in.
  86. This is a big thing because you don't change over
  87. time, especially when you're when you have depression or or
  88. anxiety. Those things don't go away in one day.
  89. So she didn't follow.
  90. She didn't get kept talking with the psychologist, and that's
  91. all service factor.
  92. But because now change skips everything to herself.
  93. Another risk factor.
  94. It's lack of support, um, the poor relationship between the
  95. mother and father during pregnancy, so currents that didn't fully
  96. support Karina's mom when she was pregnant because he didn't
  97. wanna have any kids.
  98. He did not wanna have any kids, but they ended
  99. up having between babies wishes Corrina and their sister.
  100. Her dad is very, um conf Usage ve He has
  101. some physically abused like, um, domestic abuse, like her mom.
  102. So And this is because, um, Karina's dad used to
  103. be abused too, and he saw that his daddy is
  104. to abuse Hiss Mother.
  105. So Karina's that has followed this transgenerational pattern that he
  106. has to be abusive in order to be a man.
  107. So this has affected Karina because she has seen it.
  108. She has seen her dad like physically and verbally abused
  109. her mother.
  110. Mhm. The outcome is that mother could develop postpartum depression
  111. because they're not being supported.
  112. The family friends.
  113. And because of this, Karina did not feel love since
  114. little because of her parents, lack of communication and trust.
  115. Her mom had three other kids with two over men
  116. so that affect her her mother social life.
  117. Because she didn't feel supported by family or friends either
  118. because of the stigma that you shouldn't be with more
  119. than one person.
  120. Um, in another um risk factor is anxiety, and the
  121. predictors for this domain was are stressed, low self esteem
  122. and happy relationships with family in parental over control.
  123. This happens often with Corina and her family because they
  124. do not get along.
  125. And there are a lot of people living in our
  126. house like around 10 people, so she often feels like
  127. pressured. She does not get along with her family, and
  128. her low self steam keeps growing.
  129. She's stressful.
  130. Over time, her parents take over, control off the thing
  131. she does, she has to do laundry.
  132. Weston tissues, mop and sweep.
  133. So this things to affect er on the outcomes for
  134. social anxiety is extremely worried that something bad may happen.
  135. Panic attacks, dizziness and headaches.
  136. So when she goes out, she often feel, was this
  137. panic attack?
  138. So that's why she doesn't go out Often.
  139. She's always in her room or doing shores around the
  140. house. Um, sadly, she has bean.
  141. She has followed the trans generational family partner, but I
  142. tried. I have tried to talk to her, make her
  143. feel better, But I know this is something that you
  144. have to decide to change.
  145. And I just stopped that when they she breaks, she
  146. breaks their cycle.
  147. Thank you.
