00:01 - 00:08
Hi, my name is unique lessons and I will be presenting to you my final action plan
00:08 - 00:12
Using the five DS of appreciative anchoring
00:12 - 00:17
for my university course, advanced teaching strategies.
00:17 - 00:19
So let's get into it.
00:20 - 00:24
My action plan will be built on
00:24 - 00:25
PBL
00:26 - 00:27
So
00:28 - 00:33
what is PBL once you can actually already see here,
00:33 - 00:36
it stands for project based learning.
00:37 - 00:46
So PBL is becoming more and more important and well known in the education sector.
00:46 - 00:48
Um and very recently,
00:49 - 00:56
me as a teacher and an educator have been introduced to project based learning
00:56 - 01:00
and it has inspired me a lot. So that's why I thought
01:01 - 01:05
It would be a great idea to do some research on this and
01:05 - 01:10
introduce and present to you um this 5D plan that I have made.
01:11 - 01:12
So
01:13 - 01:16
basically on my screen here you can see some
01:16 - 01:20
elements that relate to project based learning students,
01:20 - 01:25
voice and choice inquiry reflection.
01:25 - 01:26
Um
01:26 - 01:30
I won't go over all of them, but summarized
01:31 - 01:38
project based learning stands for a form of learning where students become the
01:38 - 01:46
voice and choice choice where students will link their knowledge to a project
01:47 - 01:51
that has an effect on society that is useful
01:51 - 01:54
to the community or the society that they live.
01:55 - 01:59
So they're actually learning in school and applying that knowledge
02:00 - 02:01
instantly
02:01 - 02:02
um
02:03 - 02:06
through a project to a real world situations.
02:07 - 02:11
So that is project based learning. So
02:13 - 02:18
if I had the chance to facilitate this plan, so if I could dream,
02:19 - 02:21
I would
02:21 - 02:25
really like the following outcomes to happen.
02:27 - 02:32
My biggest goal of all would be to have a full PBL school.
02:33 - 02:37
So that means a school that is fully equipped to teach 100
02:38 - 02:39
PBL
02:39 - 02:42
and not only looking at like the curriculum,
02:43 - 02:44
but
02:45 - 02:48
the structure of the school, like how are the classrooms build?
02:48 - 02:53
Um do the classrooms actually create an environment where
02:53 - 02:58
students can replicate like a real world situation?
02:58 - 02:59
Um so
03:00 - 03:06
The biggest dream of all, would we have a complete school, 100% fully equipped
03:06 - 03:10
To teach 100% project based learning.
03:12 - 03:18
So then another dream would be to have an interdisciplinary curriculum,
03:18 - 03:21
so a curriculum that is completely interdisciplinary,
03:22 - 03:23
so
03:24 - 03:30
That all teachers and all subjects kind of work together in one big project
03:32 - 03:35
And the final dream outcome would be
03:35 - 03:39
through these projects to create global citizens,
03:39 - 03:41
like preparing students to become complete
03:41 - 03:46
21st century global citizens that are ready
03:46 - 03:51
for society that are ready for the real world when they leave school.
03:53 - 03:56
So that's basically my dream outcome.
03:56 - 04:01
So how would this design looks like who would I need in my design?
04:01 - 04:06
Well, to create a schoolwide PBL, you would need to have a timeline,
04:06 - 04:10
you need to sit down with the stakeholders, with teachers,
04:10 - 04:12
with schooling as parents,
04:12 - 04:14
all of them
04:15 - 04:20
to come to a final plan. So who needs to be involved?
04:21 - 04:26
School leaders, teachers, students parents and stakeholders.
04:26 - 04:30
So what is expected from school leaders?
04:31 - 04:35
The word says that here, I expect leadership.
04:36 - 04:41
So leadership from school leaders in a sense that they are the ones that
04:42 - 04:47
are going to explain are going to lead project based
04:47 - 04:53
learning to be enrolled or implemented in the school environment.
04:53 - 05:00
So in my opinion, those people, those school leaders are very important and
05:00 - 05:02
rolling it up
05:02 - 05:03
then
05:04 - 05:07
what is expected from teachers.
05:07 - 05:12
So teachers need to get good professional development and you need to be
05:12 - 05:17
willing to be open to this professional development that in this case,
05:17 - 05:23
school leaders or people are already known with project is learning give them
05:24 - 05:26
so because teach as teachers,
05:26 - 05:33
we are used like to work instructed based the traditional way we are doing,
05:33 - 05:39
we are explaining, but we need to get like um some lessons,
05:39 - 05:42
some learnings on how can we be the facilitator.
05:42 - 05:46
So a professional development would be really important here
05:47 - 05:48
for teachers.
05:49 - 05:51
Um what is expected from students.
05:51 - 05:54
So more than ever, like in the traditional approach,
05:54 - 05:59
the teacher is doing the work is instructing you and the students do what is asked,
05:59 - 06:01
but now
06:01 - 06:04
it's kind of the other way around the teacher will be become the
06:04 - 06:11
facilitator and it's the students that really need to think and generate ideas.
06:11 - 06:13
Okay, they, they are the ones that
06:15 - 06:20
I need to speak student voice and choice. The thing I mentioned earlier.
06:21 - 06:26
Um so I need the students to be really engaged
06:26 - 06:29
and really think about what we are doing here.
06:30 - 06:35
Why are we doing this and related to a real world example
06:36 - 06:44
then parents as well. So parents also can support a school by helping
06:44 - 06:48
creating audiences. Maybe some of the parents are experts in a certain area,
06:49 - 06:54
maybe the students eventually can present, maybe a parent is an architect,
06:55 - 06:59
they can set something up so that the students learn about architecture
06:59 - 07:01
in real world
07:01 - 07:02
situation.
07:02 - 07:04
So most of all parents need there to
07:04 - 07:09
be supporting their kids and then reaching the project
07:10 - 07:14
and eventually, stakeholders, stakeholders are also really important,
07:14 - 07:17
I think because they need to be open minded if the head
07:17 - 07:22
of school or the owner of the school is not open to
07:22 - 07:25
investing some of the money in creating these
07:25 - 07:30
areas and creating field trips for students to
07:30 - 07:32
to experience there,
07:33 - 07:39
Basically their curriculum in the real world. It won't fully 100% work.
07:39 - 07:42
So stakeholders are also really important.
07:44 - 07:45
So then
07:45 - 07:47
eventually
07:48 - 07:52
destiny and deliver well, I don't know like what the
07:52 - 07:57
actual results will be because I haven't implemented yet. But
07:58 - 08:01
the most enjoyable thing about implementing this plan would be,
08:01 - 08:03
we are starting from scratch.
08:03 - 08:08
All right, all the school leaders, the teachers, the parents and students,
08:08 - 08:12
we are all exposed to something new because
08:12 - 08:14
we're so used to this traditional approach.
08:15 - 08:22
So we are actually the builders, the creators of this PBL school.
08:22 - 08:28
So I think that is really enjoyment of everyone is going to have a part in this
08:28 - 08:34
in this foundation basically that will eventually set the tone for creating these
08:34 - 08:39
global citizens that are ready and are fully equipped for the real world.
08:39 - 08:41
The society that they are living in.
08:43 - 08:45
The most challenging thing about implementing this plan is,
08:46 - 08:50
well, everyone is going to have a role, but in the team,
08:51 - 08:55
You need all people engaged. We cannot run.
08:55 - 09:02
We cannot implement this plan if one of the stakeholders or or students or parents,
09:02 - 09:07
teachers, school leaders are not in on this 100%.
09:08 - 09:13
So that would be a challenge implementing this plan.
09:14 - 09:17
So that was quickly um,
09:18 - 09:22
My dream plan, using the five DS of appreciably
09:23 - 09:24
increase.
09:24 - 09:25
Um
09:26 - 09:29
I hope you enjoyed it. I hope you enjoyed my, my
09:29 - 09:31
potential plan and who knows we can
09:31 - 09:34
do this and enroll this in the future.
09:35 - 09:36
Thank you very much.
