00:00 - 00:02
Hi, My name is Alex Borders, and I'm here to
00:02 - 00:05
talk about the personal SWAT analysis that I've developed throughout
00:05 - 00:06
the course of this semester.
00:07 - 00:11
First, to quote, education is the most powerful weapon which
00:11 - 00:12
we can use to change the world.
00:14 - 00:16
Some of the strengths that I've identified throughout this year
00:17 - 00:20
is that I am a kinesthetic intelligence personality.
00:21 - 00:23
Now, this is something that I am very strong in,
00:24 - 00:26
and it basically means that I learned by doing things
00:27 - 00:30
and by being hands on and understanding this has actually
00:30 - 00:32
helped me develop some my weaknesses and understand them better
00:33 - 00:33
as well.
00:34 - 00:36
Next is that I'm high in leadership and intuition.
00:37 - 00:39
I've always known that I was high in leadership skills,
00:40 - 00:43
but I didn't always truly trust my intuition to put
00:44 - 00:45
those skills into practice.
00:45 - 00:48
Over the course of this semester, I really understood that
00:48 - 00:49
I do have these leadership skills, and I need to
00:50 - 00:52
trust myself more next that I'm high in persuasion.
00:53 - 00:55
I've always been good at using facts and logic to
00:56 - 00:57
convince people of my opinion.
00:57 - 01:01
Um, it's something that I take pride in, but it's
01:01 - 01:04
also something that can have its downsides, which we'll talk
01:04 - 01:04
about later.
01:05 - 01:07
Next. I'm high in self and social awareness.
01:08 - 01:11
I've always known that I could critique myself better than
01:11 - 01:14
almost anyone else but the social awareness part of it.
01:14 - 01:16
I tend to score on very highly, but it's really
01:16 - 01:18
something that I've been developing over the past few years
01:20 - 01:20
next to my weaknesses.
01:22 - 01:24
So the first weakness that I've identified is that I'm
01:24 - 01:27
low and empathy, um, kind of on the opposite side
01:27 - 01:28
of being high and persuasion.
01:29 - 01:31
I don't tend to take people's opinions or their emotions
01:31 - 01:32
into account.
01:32 - 01:34
And it's something where if I want to be in
01:34 - 01:36
a leadership position, I need to be able to talk
01:36 - 01:39
to everyone and empathize with them next time.
01:39 - 01:39
Loan assertiveness.
01:40 - 01:43
I don't always put myself forward as the leader, and
01:44 - 01:46
that can play into why I haven't had a lot
01:47 - 01:48
of leadership positions in the past.
01:48 - 01:50
But it's something that I've really been working on, and
01:51 - 01:53
I've understood better because of this class.
01:54 - 01:56
Next, I'm not a great active listener.
01:56 - 01:58
I'm good at making people feel like they're being listened
01:58 - 02:00
to, but I'm not always good at following through with
02:00 - 02:03
it. That's something that I didn't fully understand until I
02:03 - 02:06
broke it down more, and now it's something that I
02:06 - 02:08
really know I need to work on next.
02:08 - 02:09
I'm low and self management.
02:10 - 02:11
This one was not surprised.
02:11 - 02:15
I've always been bad at managing thing, managing my own
02:15 - 02:17
time because I'll give it away to others so quickly.
02:18 - 02:20
But it is something where you have to.
02:20 - 02:22
I have to understand if I want to manage other
02:22 - 02:25
people, I have to feel to manage myself first, next
02:25 - 02:26
to the opportunities.
02:27 - 02:30
So the first opportunity facing me is that my current
02:31 - 02:34
position that's working president or UCF is a very high
02:34 - 02:35
potential for development.
02:36 - 02:39
Um, I'm in a leadership position where I have to
02:39 - 02:42
consistently have people look towards me for guidance and information,
02:43 - 02:45
and it's been very helpful in my own development.
02:46 - 02:49
Next, I have a lot of opportunity right now.
02:49 - 02:51
Develop strong mental relationships.
02:52 - 02:57
Um, one of my supervisors and an executive director, I,
02:57 - 02:59
UCF, are both people would like to develop relationships with
03:00 - 03:05
and developmental relationships with, and be able to push those
03:05 - 03:08
beyond just the job or the class and have them
03:08 - 03:09
continue for a long time.
03:10 - 03:14
Next, I'm interested in a growing market segment, specifically the
03:14 - 03:14
firearms market.
03:15 - 03:18
Um, As you can see, it's been growing consistently by
03:18 - 03:22
2.5% each year for the past two decades, which is
03:22 - 03:24
significant compared to a lot of other market segments.
03:25 - 03:27
Um, it does spike due to specific events, but consistently
03:28 - 03:31
it has been growing something that I think has a
03:31 - 03:32
lot of potential in it.
03:33 - 03:34
Next for the threats.
03:36 - 03:40
Her story is that this market is under heavy public
03:40 - 03:41
and government scrutiny.
03:41 - 03:45
Around 60% of Americans believe there should be higher, um,
03:46 - 03:48
higher gun laws or more strict gun laws.
03:48 - 03:52
Um, something that I think more education would potentially able
03:52 - 03:52
to help.
03:52 - 03:54
But going into this market, you have to understand that
03:55 - 03:58
this is could be a threat, and it may not
03:58 - 04:00
be a market segment that's around for a long time.
04:02 - 04:03
Next is that the industry itself.
04:03 - 04:04
It's not consistent.
04:04 - 04:06
You have to be careful of what businesses you get
04:06 - 04:09
involved with because not all of this is present themselves
04:10 - 04:13
in a way that is beneficial to not only the
04:13 - 04:14
country but also the market itself.
04:16 - 04:20
Next that potentially the market segments are nearing the flooding
04:20 - 04:23
point holsters or a good example of this that there
04:24 - 04:25
were tons of holster companies that came out of the
04:25 - 04:27
woodworks in the past 10 years, and a lot of
04:27 - 04:30
them died off because they didn't know how to carve
04:30 - 04:31
out their own segment of this growing market.
04:34 - 04:38
In conclusion, um, this analysis has really helped me understand
04:38 - 04:40
my strength and be willing to implement them as well
04:41 - 04:45
as discover some new weaknesses and be able to present
04:45 - 04:47
them in a way or look at them in a
04:47 - 04:49
way that could be a development and not just a
04:49 - 04:51
weakness. I think that the market that I'm looking for
04:52 - 04:53
has some great opportunities.
04:53 - 04:54
But it does have some failures.
04:55 - 04:58
That and some threats that air potentially not so great.
04:59 - 05:00
So with that, thank you.
