00:02 - 00:05
welcome to my final presentation for an organisational communication course
00:07 - 00:09
for this presentation, I'd like to walk you through my
00:09 - 00:11
personal profile and its recent makeover.
00:15 - 00:18
Hello, my name is Cristina Wittstein, and I work in
00:18 - 00:21
administration for a comprehensive inpatient rehab center.
00:22 - 00:24
In this role, I've been a leader and managed project
00:24 - 00:28
that developed and implemented and perfect programs that reduce the
00:28 - 00:31
annual administration workload by over 1500 hours.
00:33 - 00:35
I have additional experience in past roles as a hospitality
00:36 - 00:40
manager, education teacher and a company on boarding trainer with
00:40 - 00:45
special two degrees focused in biomedical sciences and kinesiology, most
00:45 - 00:49
recently obtaining a dual master's degree and health administration and
00:49 - 00:53
business. I'm very passionate about the development of people and
00:54 - 00:56
looking for a more challenging and career focused role in
00:56 - 00:59
management, where I can plan, direct and coordinate the daily
00:59 - 01:08
operations. That was a short elevator speech for where I
01:08 - 01:09
hope to take my career.
01:10 - 01:13
But my personal profile details needed revamping to match my
01:13 - 01:18
goals, including both my resume and LinkedIn profile.
01:21 - 01:23
Starting with my resume, I first researched what is needed
01:24 - 01:26
on a resume to be effective, and several points were
01:26 - 01:27
highlighted by some experts.
01:29 - 01:32
First, according to Darius and Ryan resume screen processes.
01:33 - 01:37
Conley's by businesses lead through resumes using algorithms that mainly
01:37 - 01:39
look at three aspects of a resume.
01:41 - 01:44
They said it a resume should have anonymous ization.
01:45 - 01:47
And to do that, I need to include personal details
01:48 - 01:52
on the resume and needs to have personalization through expanded
01:53 - 01:57
information, like links to accounts like LinkedIn that will give
01:57 - 02:02
more information than a one page resume and standardization by
02:03 - 02:09
matching job details to resume details oddly, usually characteristic selected
02:10 - 02:12
by the organization mere job incumbents.
02:15 - 02:19
In fact, constructing a profile of ideal candidates is starting
02:19 - 02:23
to shift to a new search paradigm called search by
02:24 - 02:26
ideal candidates designed and used by lengthen.
02:28 - 02:31
This approach to finding candidates starts by selecting a small
02:32 - 02:35
set of ideal candidates currently employed at a company that
02:35 - 02:38
it uses their profile from Lincoln to build enlist the
02:38 - 02:42
characteristics toe look for in their resumes that they wanna
02:43 - 02:44
review for candidacy.
02:48 - 02:54
Next, different types of companies like commercial, nonprofit, government and
02:54 - 02:57
education based companies may prioritize applicant character.
02:58 - 02:58
Six differently.
03:00 - 03:05
Research suggests that recruiters from commercial businesses have low concern
03:06 - 03:09
for being cooperative in giving others a chance.
03:10 - 03:13
Rather, in a candidate they want the candidate to pee
03:14 - 03:15
focused on organizational culture.
03:16 - 03:17
Fit in competitiveness.
03:19 - 03:24
Recruiters from nonprofit organizations do not generally see competitive applicants.
03:25 - 03:27
Rather, they focus on enthusiasm towards the companies.
03:28 - 03:33
Work recruiters from government companies don't always value openness and
03:34 - 03:38
trying new things, intellectual curiosity or entertaining novel ideas.
03:39 - 03:41
Rather, they're looking for non competitiveness.
03:43 - 03:48
And recruiters in education want candidates with high ratings of
03:48 - 03:54
openness who exhibit all these other things that the other
03:54 - 03:56
companies are saying that they're not looking for.
03:57 - 04:00
They put an emphasis on positive attitudes and accuracy of
04:00 - 04:02
resume G, P A.
04:02 - 04:14
And references the last point from experts say that intensity
04:14 - 04:17
of self promotion has been shown to affect applicant evaluation.
04:19 - 04:24
Moderate use of self promotion, positively effects applicant evaluation where.
04:24 - 04:28
Conversely, if you have no use, low use or high
04:28 - 04:33
intensity self promotion use, you can result in the perception
04:33 - 04:35
of manipulated nous.
04:37 - 04:40
They suggest that applicants applying for business management position highlights
04:41 - 04:45
certain knowledge and skills and abilities as well a specific
04:45 - 04:48
qualifications to communicate moderate self promotion.
04:52 - 04:55
We can look at knowledge, skills and abilities that the
04:55 - 04:57
article suggested that you put in a resume.
04:59 - 05:03
These included having aspects of teamwork and team building demonstrated
05:04 - 05:08
relationship building skills, the ability to interact with different audiences,
05:09 - 05:15
exceptional project management skills and ability to prioritize multiple conflicting
05:15 - 05:22
tasks. As for qualifications, here are some of the things
05:22 - 05:27
that they listed were also important that you have 5
05:27 - 05:30
to 8 years of relevant experience education, such as bachelors
05:31 - 05:35
degree or other certifications that make you qualify that you
05:36 - 05:39
know how to demonstrate leadership ability and have examples.
05:41 - 05:46
Interpersonal communication skills are present, and you have person proficiency
05:47 - 05:51
with different types of technology, like Microsoft Suite or WebEx.
05:57 - 06:00
With all this taken in consideration, I revamped me resume.
06:05 - 06:07
Here is a look at the format of my old
06:07 - 06:13
resume. It's one column in sort of bland with general
06:13 - 06:18
headings and is quite long at the top.
06:19 - 06:22
I did have my personal information as suggested, but my
06:23 - 06:27
new resume included a picture and linked in sight that
06:27 - 06:28
I hadn't had there before.
06:29 - 06:38
To better personalize, I rearranged my resume sections and made
06:38 - 06:38
it two column.
06:40 - 06:43
It pronounced the different sections of my application for an
06:43 - 06:48
easier way to see different sections allowed for my two
06:48 - 06:52
important sections of experience and projects to take up a
06:52 - 06:52
larger section.
06:54 - 06:56
Here's a view of my old one where I had
06:56 - 07:02
manager projects at the top, followed by education certification and
07:02 - 07:07
how they were differentiated wasn't very clear on my new
07:07 - 07:12
resume. The headings and what they're looking for is clearly
07:12 - 07:16
marked, and experiences and projects are given a larger portion
07:17 - 07:17
of the piece of paper.
07:19 - 07:21
This out to be more targeted towards things like nonprofit
07:22 - 07:25
companies and health care and the qualities of candidates in
07:25 - 07:26
those fields that I wanted to promote.
07:32 - 07:35
The next thing that I did, what is added in
07:35 - 07:38
a skill section and eliminated some of the worthiness to
07:38 - 07:41
better match some of the wording from leaders and my
07:41 - 07:49
organization. Here's my volunteer experience from before where it was
07:49 - 07:52
quite long and lengthy for a very short and simple
07:53 - 07:57
experience. Here's my new one that shortened it up and
07:57 - 07:59
also gave that bolding so that they knew that that
07:59 - 08:00
was my volunteer experience.
08:01 - 08:04
In part of what was important for my job application
08:09 - 08:09
following me.
08:09 - 08:10
Resume revamp.
08:12 - 08:21
My LinkedIn profile needed updating to match personality traits are
08:21 - 08:23
important. Highly Aisling dim profile.
08:26 - 08:29
So I updated my personal information to my married name
08:29 - 08:32
information that changed in January of this year, which included
08:33 - 08:36
changing my name in primary email address and added in
08:37 - 08:39
a pronunciation audio clip for how to Say my name.
08:45 - 08:49
An article titled Linked in Big Four Job Performance Validation
08:49 - 08:50
in the I.
08:50 - 08:50
C. T.
08:50 - 08:53
Sector examined some important factors for linked in profiles.
08:54 - 08:58
They suggested matching personal profiles, as I did when I
08:58 - 08:59
revamped my resume.
09:01 - 09:04
My current job description hadn't been updated since making those
09:04 - 09:06
changes, so I up due to them to match my
09:06 - 09:09
resume and included a few other updates.
09:10 - 09:17
Since making those changes, LinkedIn had added a few more
09:17 - 09:19
things since the last time I had updated it.
09:20 - 09:22
Like whether or not the job was full time or
09:22 - 09:28
not in line with self promotion that I spoke of
09:29 - 09:32
earlier, I updated my skills to match my resume as
09:32 - 09:32
a leader.
09:32 - 09:36
Po fire characteristics in my organization and major they match.
09:40 - 09:44
Here's a view of what it was prior, followed by
09:44 - 09:48
the changes where I was able to adjust my prior
09:48 - 09:52
skills. They allow for three top skills and I changed
09:53 - 09:55
them to match the jobs that I'm currently looking for.
09:59 - 10:03
Overall, when you download the resume from the Lincoln profile,
10:04 - 10:05
They don't look much different.
10:06 - 10:09
The top one here on the screen is my old
10:09 - 10:11
profile, and the bottom one is my new one.
10:12 - 10:15
It actually is longer, but the profile view in the
10:15 - 10:18
amount of information that could be cleaned from it is
10:18 - 10:25
much better with this newly renovated profile.
10:26 - 10:27
I'm excited to proceed with applications.
10:29 - 10:31
I have the mean to start for a while.
10:32 - 10:35
I'm ready for a more career orange position with this
10:35 - 10:40
new profile, and this profile gives me a reference for
10:40 - 10:45
adaptation. Easy to use tools for tweaking my profile and
10:46 - 10:49
ease in accessing applications that allow me to adjust it
10:49 - 10:53
quickly. My elevator speech is going to be great for
10:53 - 10:56
interviews, and in fact, I had an interview where an
10:56 - 10:59
overview of me was asked as my first question.
11:00 - 11:02
I wish I had had this ready a month ago.
11:04 - 11:07
My new resume is easy to tailor for different positions
11:09 - 11:13
and my LinkedIn profile, where content will continue to allow
11:13 - 11:16
me to network and have exposure to other leaders in
11:16 - 11:16
my industry.
11:18 - 11:19
I'm pretty excited to proceed.
11:22 - 11:25
Here's a list of my references, and I want to
11:25 - 11:27
thank you for listening and hope you enjoyed learning a
11:27 - 11:31
little bit about me and my profile and its recent
11:31 - 11:33
makeover. No, thank you
